Published with the initials M. B. - a Benedictine Monk which refer to its author Friar Mateus da Assunção Brandão.</p>_x000d_<p>Inocêncio mentions the existence of a two-volume translation published in 1783 Lisbon Offic. de José de Aquino Bulhões by Vicente Carlos de Oliveira a well-known poet and translator at the time and author of several poems and translations. In other words Inocêncio saw a third loose volume belonging to this three-volume edition and mistakenly thought it was a complement to the 1783 edition when they were different editions and translations the second being by Friar Mateus da Assunção Brandão. Only Inocêncio's continuator Brito Aranha in volume XVII of the Dictionary correctly attributed the authorship of the translation.</p>_x000d_<p>Work consisting of a preliminary speech and fourteen chapters which describes the history of the Roman Republic from its foundation after the overthrow of the Monarchy to its end with the rise to power of Julius Caesar.</p>_x000d_<p>All volumes include subject indexes and the last one contains a memoir by Lord Stanhope on the composition of the Roman Senate and the author's response.</p>_x000d_<p>René Aubert de Vertot Bennetot Castle 1655 - Paris 1735 French ecclesiastic and historian. After studying with the Jesuits at the College of Rouen he joined the Franciscan Capuchin Order which he left for health reasons. He then joined the Premonstratensian Order where he served as secretary to the General of the Order and was appointed Prior of Joyenval. Expulsando os representantes do rei Filipe IV de Espanha cuja família reinava nos dois países desde 1580 e garantindo a independência de Portugal.</p>_x000d_<p>Publicada pela primeira vez em 1689 a obra revelou-se um enorme sucesso editorial com mais de 35 edições em menos de um século publicada em diversas línguas e países. Segundo Gastão de Melo e Matos na nova tradução e impressão de 1945 foi com a Restauração que Portugal se tornou conhecido do europeu médio da época pois Portugal não constituía um factor político na Europa; e foram pelas acções dirigidas contra o rei de Espanha que esta obra alcançou fama. A scarce work translated from the French of the Abbot Vertat by J Mitchel. Illustrated with a folding map. The Abbot Vertat as stated to this title page is also known as the Abbot Vertot. Rene-Aubert Vertot was a French clergyman and historian. Vertot was a pupil of the Jesuit Fathers seminary at Rouen which he left at the end of two years to enter the Capuchin Order. His first historical work was his 'Histoire de la Conjuration de Portugal'. As this work was received favourably he endeavored to write this work instead. 'Histoire des Revolutions de Suede was first published in 1695 and the first English translation appeared soon after. This is the second English edition of this work. Vertot also wrote a history on the History of the Knights Hospitallers. This work is complete with a folding map of Sweden Denmark and Norway. Rebound in a half morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally excellent with minor shelfwear. Internally firmly bound.
