Edition originale des quatre "Dialogues de Pasquin & de Marforio", pamphlets dialogués, que Le Noble distribuait par intermittence et auxquels ses contemporains donnèrent le nom de "Pasquinades". "L'un des plus remarquables publicistes en France à la fin du XVIIe siècle". "Le 'Cibisme' (d'après le nom du cardinal Cibo) et le 'Songe de Pasquin' (…) se rapportent à la chute de Jacques II renversé par son gendre avec la complicité du pape, le 'Couronnement de Guillemot et de Guillemette' (Guillaume III et Marie d'York), le grand 'Sermon du docteur Burnet', prononcé pour cette circonstance, et le 'Festin de Guillemot' ont trait aux événements d'Angleterre" ('Sources de l'Histoire de France', n°1956). Les pièces sont reliées dans le désordre. Mors frottés. Bon exemplaire.

Réédition révolutionnaire du texte de John Milton publié en 1650, augmentée d'une préface de l'éditeur et d'additions. Milton y affirmait ses principes républicains et légitimait l'exécution du roi Charles Ier. L'ouvrage, qui est ici publié à la veille de l'exécution de Louis XVI, fait un parallèle dans la préface, entre les deux régicides. "La déclaration des deux maisons du Parlement (...)" (p. [151]-196) et "La déclaration des Communes d'Angleterre" (p. [197]-221) possèdent tous deux une page de titre particulière. La planche représente la décapitation de Charles 1er. (Manque à Martin & Walter). Bon exemplaire.

Addressed "Dear Sir" but from context almost certainly to the Editors of the Westminster Review see note. Clean and legible; docketed in pencil upper left; Very Good or better. <br /> <br /> Blind 1826-1907 was a significant figure in the German Revolutions of 1848 imprisoned as a student at Heidelberg for distributing anti-monarchist propaganda; later wounded in the student revolts at Baden and imprisoned again only to be freed by a revolutionary mob eight months later. After 1850 Blind like many Germans of the generation of 1848 spent much of his life in exile in England. In the current note clearly written to accompany the submission of a manuscript article Blind writes in English ".In the enclosed I give personal reminiscences which I think bear as much upon the present situation between France and Germany as they have a historical importance.I may be allowed to say that no German living could give such a description owing to the long intercourse and the great intimacy with French Republican leaders since the time when I was at Paris.the names of men like Victor HUgo Lebrun Rollin Louis Blanc Felix Pyat Valentin and others speak for themselves in the way of political significance.I would thank you for a line as to whether this is welcome." The recipient is unidentified but we note that the Westminster Review for March 1903 carried Blind's article "French Republican Leaders and World Peace" almost certainly the piece referenced in Blind's letter here. unknown

Slightly toned with old vertical and horizontal fold-lines; creased at margins; Very Good. Satirical broadside in the form of a fictional speech by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in which he ironically expresses support for the demands made by liberal parliamentarians at the May 18th Parliamentary Assembly in Frankfurt-am-Main. These included expanded rights for the underprivileged classes including most importantly universal male suffrage; attenuation of executive power; the election of a permanent German parliament and monetary reforms including a unified German currency. The great wave of liberal revolt that washed over the European Continent in 1848 proved short-lived; by 1851 most of the newly-established liberal régimes had been quashed by reactionary movements with radical leaders either imprisoned murdered or driven into exile. Out of this crucible would arise the Franco-Prussian War and the militant Marxist nihilist and anarchist movements of later in the century. A highly evocative document of the first wave of German radical revolt. Rare; OCLC and KVK note three locations only all in Germany. Vereins Buchdruckerei unknown

This edition includes portraits of a number of the movement's main protagonists - Louis-Philippe Proudhon Louis Blanc etc. Delvau's preface to this edition is dated at its conclusion 1868.
