Morin & with early ownership entry illegible. First Edition. Morin a seventh generation Canadian was still a law student when he wrote the present work assailing Judge Bowens refusal of a writ of summons drawn up in French and reminding him of French language rights in Lower Canadian courts. Morin went on to practise law and journalism and entered politics in 1830 becoming a supporter of Louis Joseph Papineau. He was the author in 1834 of the Ninety-Two Resolutions and the same year was deputed with Denis Benjamin Viger to lay before the British parliament the views of the Lower Canadian Assembly. A warrant was issued for his arrest for his involvement in the Rebellion but the charges of high treason were so ill-founded that he was not brought to trial. Lasalle s'est particulièrement intéressé aux cellules 7, 8 et 14 réservées aux artistes. Alexandre Dumas fils y écrivit un roman, Alfred de Musset une poésie, Honoré de Balzac, Leconte de Lisle et Théodore de Banville y ont séjourné. (WIKIPEDIA) Ancienne prison de l’ancienne garde nationale. — Primitivement ce local, sur l’emplacement duquel a été bâtie, en 1843, la bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, fut affecté au collège Montaigu surnommé plaisamment « le collège des haricots » par allusion à la maigre cuisine qu’on y faisait ; car le jeûne y était en permanence. (V. Rabelais, Gargantua, l. 1, ch. XXXVII) Le collège des Haricots fut supprimé en 1792 et ses bâtiments servirent de prison militaire et de prison de la garde nationale pendant la Révolution. (A. de Lasalle, l’Hôtel des haricots) Après la Révolution, l’Hôtel des haricots émigra à l’hôtel Bazancourt, rue des Fossés Saint-Bernard, et fut enfin transféré, vers 1838, rue de Boulainvilliers, en face le pont de Grenelle ; c’est là qu’il s’éteignit avec la garde nationale. A letter in French requesting a copy of a publication. Arthur Jules Morin 1795-1880 was a French physicist. He conducted experiments in mechanics and invented the Morin dynamometer. He introduced the term coefficient of friction and demonstrated its utility. Levi Leone 1821-1888. English jurist and statistician. His chief work History of British Commerce and of the Economic Progress of the British Nation 1763-1870 is considered to be a partisan account of British economic development. Size is 205mm x 130mm.
