The origins of this phenomenon date back to the 5th millenium BC. By the Classical Period there were Hellenic communities established from the North coast of the Black Sea to North Africa as far East as the Hindu Kush and as far West as the Iberian Peninsula. Today Hellenic communities are found over most of the world. Yet no attempt has so far been made to study the continuities and changes related to this phenomenon. It is the purpose of this international Congress to fill this gap. Many aspects of the diaspora at all times are dealt with: political and economic history institutions cultural and social developments and the interplay between imported Hellenism and native cultures." -- Contents 10 contributions in the Greek language not listed below: Greek Colony in Trieste in the 18th-19th Centuries / Joze Pirjevec; Greek Scholars in Renaissance Italy: Some Aspects of Their Role in the Dissemination of Classical Literature / Ole L.
