New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 21 cm). Edition in English. [6], 135 p., b/w ills. Aesthetics and art in the 20th century. [= 20. yüzyilda estetik ve sanat]. Why this topic? Why now? SANART is the only association of aesthetics in Turkey. It has the mission of enthusing and building up a public for the raised awareness of issues related with aesthetics and art. For the past ten years now, it has carried this mission to the practical realm in Ankara, where it is based, through the organisation of symposia, exhibitions and publications. To coincide with the closure of the twentieth century, on its tenth year, SANART decided to re-evaluate the century in terms of various approaches to the field of aesthetics and art. Twelve participants, who were invited and whose texts are included in this book, were asked to bring forth specific issues within the general problematic of the twentieth century. The objective was more to do with understanding our concerns with the new century, while reflecting upon the previous one, than providing all encompassing accounts of historiography. Why the book? Publications are very important for SANART because as an association it seeks to maintain permanence in the cultural sphere of Turkey, and to achieve that permanence, although the continuity of temporal events help, it is essential to accumulate written material. All of the symposia that SANART has organised have been published or are pending publication. Because of the significance and timely relevance of the topic, this book aims to disseminate the ideas discussed in the symposium to a wider public than that of the locality of Ankara, to a world audience, which is why it has been decided to publish it in English. The programme of the symposium was arranged so that the first half focused on art work and aesthetics followed by the "avant-garde" discussion and the second half concentrated on issues of architecture, politics and aesthetics. In editing the book, the order of the sessions of the symposium was maintained so that the lines of thought that emerged during the Symposium can be followed in the Discussion and Afterwords without much difficulty. In an overview of the texts, it is possible to discern that one of the major shifts that occurred in art in the twentieth century was that with the advent of new technologies and the possibility of wider dissemination, artists vocally assumed new roles to themselves while simultaneously critics and theoreticians assigned new tasks to the domain of art.

New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English and Turkish. 366 p., ills. Art, Art History and aesthetic are the definitions and the witnesses of time. At the same time, they are the definers of the place. That's the reason why, they are the indicators of the human evolution. Time is mostly explained by an evaluated process and, it is also identical with nonspatial dimensional continuum. Time, which is an abstract concept, is an continuing series of events. In Ancient philosophy, time was a space which included all living creatures was measured by specific methods. According to Kant, time is a design which undertake the feelings' primal function. Generally, it is impossible to exclude appearance from time. All of the appearances can destroyed but time cannot disappear by itself. Place is a fact that effects outer sense from Kant's point of view. Kant effected by Newton's idea of absolute time and space's metaphysical shape, he sustains the idea that time is different from place in terms of subjectivity. So, we can explain this definition as time is pure acumen. Bergson, categorizes time as real and psychological and mathematical. Mathematical time's transformation can be achieved in space / place, and real and psychological time's transformation can be achieved in the conscious. Place is space designed in order to compensate human needs and is separated naturally from the environment, for the human's indispensable necessities. Place is the most relevant property of architecture and is identified with the concept of architecture. Time is the most important evidence of Human evolution. Explanations and examples of this evolution are the structures, which we can describe as architectural pieces. Periods, which have constructed the Art History, can all be explained by time and place. Art History, which explains civilizations, states and Empires with properties of their art, examines art works, which are created by the continuity of time and space. The Symposium aims to highlight the progress of art through time and in this sense, it will shed aesthetic theorems which have shaped Art History. Your attendance will be very important for being a witness to the process of Art History in the light of these subjects.

New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 395 p., color and b/w ills. "Ekrem Hakki Ayverdi was raised at a time in which Istanbul was undergoing its late Ottoman-early Republican period. Apart from his persona as an engineer-architect, restorer, and architectural historian, he was a collector passionately dedicated to Ottoman art. Undertaking the construction of different public buildings in Istanbul, Bursa and Edirne, as well as the restoration of many architectural works, Ayverdi not only brought together the most select and refined works of Ottoman art, which had begun to lose its prestige amidst the changing values of high culture in the time he lived, but he also paid particular attention to their conservation and preservation. Ayverdi's two seminal corpuses that study Ottoman architecture from its early days until the end of the Mehmed II era, as well as its examples in Roumelia, continue to maintain their place as the most important reference books for those working in this field. Istanbul Research Institute commemorates Ekrem Hakki Ayverdi, his professional work, and his priceless collection with an exhibition in the 30th anniversary of his passing and hopes to bring together wide audiences with this versatile and colorful man of culture, who, as one of the last representative of a lost world, holds a unique place in Ottoman art studies and Ottoman architectural history in particular.".

New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 208 p., color ills. Golden grace: Tombac.= Tombak: Altindan süzülen zarafet. [Exhibition catalogue]. "A magic world unfolded before us during our preparations for the exhibition Tombac: Golden Grace. With Yapi Kredi's tombac collection as our starting point we discovered that behind the graceful and magnificent culture created with gold was in fact thousands of years of know-how and experience. The power and prestige conferred on gold down the ages gave rise to the notion of covering items made from less valuable metals with gold and inspired the development of gold plating methods. Beginning in Central Asia, Turks played a vital role in the production of metal goods and created a valuable culture in this field, crowned during the Ottoman period with the tombac gilding technique. However, the discovery of the electrolysis technique in the 19th century, led in due course to the discontinuation of the tombac gilding method. This book was produced to introduce the still insufficiently researched art of tombac that is about to sink into oblivion. While exploring the subject of gold plating from the early period, the focus is on tombac items which formed the pinnacle of Ottoman metal craft. Nihat Tekdemir examined the gold plating methods used in different periods of the cultural history. He covered the Ottoman tombac gilding technique comprehensively, described the differences between this and other gilding techniques and named the areas in which tombac was used. Prof. Dr. Sümer Atasoy explained that copper always was the most favoured metal in Anatolia, and while relating the story of coppersmithing, he also touched upon production techniques and the decoration of copper before the tombac gilding. Ömür Tufan, expert at Topkapi Palace Museum's Copper and Chandelier Department, described the Ottoman sultan's tombac effects at Topkapi Palace, the characteristic features of the tombacs in the collection and where they were used.".
