The fourteen miles between Falaise and Argentan have come to be known simply as the Falaise Gap. Because Eisenhower was unable to maintain Allied military solidarity, between 12 and 21 August 1944 it became the escape route for over 100,000 German troops fleeing the Normandy battlefields. A valuable addition to the literature of the aftermath of Overlord.
