With a general title page followed by an index and 73 treaties nearly all with their own title page containing the original imprint and a woodcut of the Dutch lion the arms of the States General and a few with Van Wouw's printer's device of a snail with the motto "Avec le temps paulatim". Very rare mid-18th-century edition of a collection of 73 treaties between the Dutch Republic and countries in Europe including Belgium Denmark France Great Britain Norway Portugal Spain and Sweden. Since most treaties concern both the ending of hostilities and overseas commerce many concern the Dutch East India Company VOC the Dutch West India Company WIC and the Dutch colonies. Several include translations of the treaties. These documents represent some of the founding documents of the Dutch Republic along with assorted political documents and memorabilia of the Eighty Years War.With library stamp on the title page and some occasional spots. With woodcut arms of the States General in a frame with military attributes on title-page and 1 large woodcut decorated initial. Set in textura types with incidental roman and italic. 8 pp. First edition published in Dutch translation of a treaty signed between the Dutch States General and Pasha Ahmed Karamanli 1686-1745 Turkish Muslim leader of the semi-autonomous state of Tripoli since 1711 when he killed the Ottoman governor and took the throne. The treaty in 13 articles guarantees the safety of Dutch ships trading at Tripoli and their crews even when shipwrecked sets restrictions on taxes military supplies such as gunpowder lead iron cannonballs and ships' masts are exempted. The governor of Tripoli is to see to it that the whole city is warned when one of the Dutch States General's ships drops anchor so that all who own slaves can keep an eye on them to ensure they do not flee to the ship. Second part of a treaty concluded between the Dutch States General and Abdullah bin Ismail 1694-1757 Sultan of Morocco on and off from 1734 to his death in 1757. The treaty was first settled in 1752. This Continuation of the Recueil of the tractates made and concluded between the High Majesty Lords General of the United Netherlands on the one side and several kings princes and potentates on the other side was published in 1753. States "num. 26" to the top right of the title page. Would appear to have been removed from a larger printing of Treaties of the States General. The 23 articles of the treaty are followed by a form for the passports that Dutch ships were to carry a note on the treaty's ratification at Fez and a translation of a letter originally in Arabic from the Sultan of Morocco to the States General. Overall a good copy but with a light water stain to a quarter of the page throughout. Several of the leaves are detached but present. Could be easily repaired. 23 1 blank. Complete. Indique "num. 26" en haut à droite de la page de titre. Semble avoir été retiré d'une impression plus importante des Traités des Etats Généraux. Les 23 articles du traité sont suivis d'un formulaire pour les passeports que les navires hollandais devaient porter d'une note sur la ratification du traité à Fez et d'une traduction d'une lettre à l'origine en arabe du sultan du Maroc aux États généraux. Bon exemplaire dans l'ensemble mais avec une légère tache d'eau sur un quart de page tout au long de l'ouvrage. Plusieurs feuilles sont détachées mais présentes. With Scheltus's woodcut printer's device on the title-page and with a woodcut initial. 14 2 pp. First edition of the text of a treaty between the States General of the Dutch Republic and the government or the Dey or Sultan of Algiers Baba Ali Chaouche who reigned from 1710-1718 Dey from the Turkish honorific title dayi literally meaning uncle was the title given to the rulers of the Regency of Algiers Tripoli and Tunis under the Ottoman Empire from 1671 onwards. The treaty was concluded on the 18th of June 1712 at Algiers by the Dutch consul general Johan van Baarle consul 1709-1716 and ratified the 4th of July 1712.The XXII articles of the treaty mirror very interestingly the problems the Dutch merchants trading in the Mediterranean and the warships of the Dutch West India Company protecting their interests encountered on the northern coasts of Africa: Algiers Tunis and Tripoli. In these articles taxes and imposts are regulated as well as compensations and claims for damages arrangements in case of deaths treatment and buying off of Dutch and European slaves and returning of run off slaves.In good condition.l Knuttel 16193. unknown
