With Scheltus's woodcut printer's device on the title-page and with a woodcut initial. 14 2 pp. First edition of the text of a treaty between the States General of the Dutch Republic and the government or the Dey or Sultan of Algiers Baba Ali Chaouche who reigned from 1710-1718 Dey from the Turkish honorific title dayi literally meaning uncle was the title given to the rulers of the Regency of Algiers Tripoli and Tunis under the Ottoman Empire from 1671 onwards. The treaty was concluded on the 18th of June 1712 at Algiers by the Dutch consul general Johan van Baarle consul 1709-1716 and ratified the 4th of July 1712.The XXII articles of the treaty mirror very interestingly the problems the Dutch merchants trading in the Mediterranean and the warships of the Dutch West India Company protecting their interests encountered on the northern coasts of Africa: Algiers Tunis and Tripoli. In these articles taxes and imposts are regulated as well as compensations and claims for damages arrangements in case of deaths treatment and buying off of Dutch and European slaves and returning of run off slaves.In good condition.l Knuttel 16193. unknown

Set in textura types with incidental roman and italic. 8 pp. First edition published in Dutch translation of a treaty signed between the Dutch States General and Pasha Ahmed Karamanli 1686-1745 Turkish Muslim leader of the semi-autonomous state of Tripoli since 1711 when he killed the Ottoman governor and took the throne. The treaty in 13 articles guarantees the safety of Dutch ships trading at Tripoli and their crews even when shipwrecked sets restrictions on taxes military supplies such as gunpowder lead iron cannonballs and ships' masts are exempted. The governor of Tripoli is to see to it that the whole city is warned when one of the Dutch States General's ships drops anchor so that all who own slaves can keep an eye on them to ensure they do not flee to the ship. With: 2 Ampliatie tot het tractaat van vrede tusschen . de Staaten Generaal . en den Dey en regeering van Algiers. Exhibitum den 10 October 1760. Rare second edition of a peace treaty between the Dutch Republic and the Regency of Algiers signed in 1757 ending the war that had started in 1755. It lists the agreements made between the two parties especially concerning Algiers's attitude towards ships sailing the waters around and ports of Algiers. Some articles deal with pirates Dutch merchants and the buying and selling of ships. Inserted at the end is a brief complement printed in 1760 including three more articles in addition to the original treaty. Some small stains. Paper wrappers worn. With the woodcut arms of the States General on the title-page. 26 2 blank pp. Second edition published in several issues of a treaty concluded between the Dutch States General and Abdullah bin Ismail 1694-1757 Sultan of Morocco on and off from 1734 to his death in 1757. The 23 articles of the treaty are followed by a form for the passports that Dutch ships were to carry a note on the treaty's ratification at Fez and a translation of a letter originally in Arabic from the Sultan of Morocco to the States General. The treaty was negotiated by Mohamed Lucas governor of Tétouan acting for Morocco and Francisco and Louis Butler granted power of attorney by the States General. It guarantees access free trade and safety for ships of the States General and its subjects and their crews and passengers in ports under Moroccan authority. Goods they sell there are subject to the usual taxes but military and shipbuilding supplies are exempt gunpowder timber wheel-lock muskets etc. The treaty was concluded on 21 November 1752/14 Muharram 1166. A further note says it was ratified at Fez on 4 December/28 Muharram and Sultan Abdullah's letter to the States General bears the same date.With a brief inscription on the title-page. With a general title page followed by an index and 73 treaties nearly all with their own title page containing the original imprint and a woodcut of the Dutch lion the arms of the States General and a few with Van Wouw's printer's device of a snail with the motto "Avec le temps paulatim". Very rare mid-18th-century edition of a collection of 73 treaties between the Dutch Republic and countries in Europe including Belgium Denmark France Great Britain Norway Portugal Spain and Sweden. Since most treaties concern both the ending of hostilities and overseas commerce many concern the Dutch East India Company VOC the Dutch West India Company WIC and the Dutch colonies. Several include translations of the treaties. These documents represent some of the founding documents of the Dutch Republic along with assorted political documents and memorabilia of the Eighty Years War.With library stamp on the title page and some occasional spots. Ouvrage relié en pleine basane marron d'époque, les deux plats frappés aux armes de la famille Aubery du Maurier (de gueules, au croissant d'or, accentué de trois trèfles d'argent). Ils sont en outre décorés de deux double-filets dorés dont l'un porte aux coins les initiales AYM (pour Aubery du Maurier). Dos à quatre nerfs, enrichi de fleurons dorés aux petits fers. Contregardes en papier marbré. Toutes tranches rouges. Le cuir d'origine est craquelé sur l'ensemble de la surface et présente de fortes traces d'usure, avec quelques manques. L'ouvrage porte aussi des marques de restauration sur les plats et le dos. L'intérieur est encore frais et ne présente que quelques brunissures éparses. Apostille ancienne à la plume sur la page de titre. Ex-libris: André Gutzwiller. A l'origine, au XVIe siècle, l'ouvrage était vendu avec une grande planche gravée représentant l'assemblée des Etats-Généraux de 1576. Le présent document est très rare.
