New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 200 p., ills. Pero Tafur seyahatnamesi (9 Mayis 1437 - 22 Mayis 1438). Prep. by Hakan Kiliç. Translaiton from Spanish. Pero Tafur was a Spanish traveler, historian and writer. Born in Córdoba, to a branch of the noble house of Guzmán, Tafur traveled across three continents during the years 1436 to 1439. During the voyage, he participated in various battles, visited shrines, and rendered diplomatic services for Juan II of Castile. He visited the Moroccan coast, southern France, the Holy Land, Egypt, Rhodes, Cyprus, Tenedos, Trebizond, and Constantinople. He also visited the Sinai Peninsula, where he met Niccolò Da Conti, who shared with Tafur information about southeastern Asia. Before returning to Spain, Tafur crossed central Europe and Italy. Between 1453 and 1454, to judge from interior evidence in the single surviving manuscript, he wrote a book called Andanças e viajes de Pero Tafur por diversas partes del mundo avidos (unpublished until 1874, when it was published by Marcos Jiménez de la Espada). It is one of the few books written by a Spanish traveler during the medieval period (that of Ruy González de Clavijo is another example). Tafur dedicated his book to a member of the Guzmán family, the same family to which Saint Dominic belonged. He thus provides biographical information regarding this saint. He provides valuable details concerning the Baths of Zeuxippus, the Hagia Sophia, the Holy doors in Rome, and the obelisks in Rome. Having returned to Spain in 1439, some time before 1452 Tafur married Doña Juana de Horozco. A son appears to have predeceased his father, but three daughters are mentioned in Doña Juana's will. He played a prominent role in local affairs: he and his son both held office as aldermen in 1479.

New Armenian Original bdg. HC. 4to. (29 x 23 cm). Edition in Armenian. 144 p., b/w photos. Papelonen verç bidi abrink. [Album of photographs]. [ARMENIAN EDITION]. This book brings together the short stories Ara Güler penned during his early period, and his photographs. Güler is known internationally as a photographer and considered the most important representative of creative photography in Turkey, however, he is a relative unknown as a short story writer, and the various aspects of Güler the writer appear in breathtaking range in We Will Live After Babylon. This new edition of three simultaneously published volumes in Turkish, Armenian and English, brings together Güler's visual production with his texts, who appear to also take photographs through the medium of the short story, to form a "photograph-short story album". Güler thinks that his early period short stories have an important role in his ability to "capture meaningful moments and combine them in a narrative", and describes these 13 short stories as "a kind of photography". There is no doubt that Güler is a "man of the visual world" and We Will Live After Babylon is a solid proof of that.
New English Original bdg. HC. In special publisher's box. Oblong 4to. (30 x 34 cm). In English and Turkish. Reprint 1955 panorama of Istanbul sized 13x104 cm, and 8 p. bilingual text in English and Turkish by Sinan Genim. Archaeological evidence of human habitation in the area within the city walls revealed by recent excavations shows that Istanbul's past goes back 8000 years. Moving several thousand years forward in time, the first pictorial record of the city, known successively as Lygos, Byzantion, Antoninia, Nea Roma, Konstantinopolis, Kostantiniyye, and finally Istanbul, is the Tabula Peutingeriana (the Peutinger Map). For centuries the city was an inspiration for artists, one of whom, Melchior Lorichs, drew the first panorama of the city in 1559, and this was followed by others over the centuries until the advent of photography. The earliest surviving panoramic photographs of the city are those taken by James Robertson in 1854,3 and this tradition was continued by Kargopoulo, the Abdullah Brothers, the Giilmez Brothers, Guillaime Berggren, and Sebah & Joaillier.
