Edition originale des Mémoires du duc de Guise rédigés par Philippe Goibaud Du Bois et publiés par Saint-Yon, secrétaire du Duc de Guise, selon le privilège. Second fils de Charles Ier et d'Henriette Catherine de Joyeuse, Henri II de Guise (1614-1664) conspira avec Louis de Bourbon contre Richelieu et le combattit lors de la bataille de la Marfée. Condamné à mort pour trahison, réfugié en Flandre, il fut pardonné et revint en France en 1643. Il renoua avec les prétentions familiales sur le royaume de Naples, participa à la révolte de Masaniello en 1647 et gouverna la République royale de Naples mais en fut chassé par les Espagnols qui le firent prisonnier. Il devint par la suite grand chambellan de Louis XIV. "Ces Mémoires traitent de l'expédition de Naples, où le duc de Guise essaye de faire accepter les prétentions de la maison de Lorraine sur le royaume des Deux-Siciles et où sa tentative se termine par une captivité chez les Espagnols" (Bourgeois & André, 'Sources de l'histoire de France', 785). Reliure abîmée: garniture du dos effacée, épidermures éparses, mors cassés, coiffes et coins usés. Provenance: "The Rt.
