A number of his works chronicled the lives of a variety of high-profile individuals such as Pope Pius XII Pope John XXIII Brother André Charles de Gaulle Prince Bernhard Glenn Curtiss Dwight D. Eisenhower Mamie Eisenhower George S. Patton Wendell Willkie Woodrow Wilson and Edith Bolling Wilson Clare Boothe Luce Buckminster Fuller and what Hatch described as a "novelized biography" of Franklin Roosevelt. Hatch wrote several books on his friend Dwight Eisenhower and his official biography was used by the General during his 1952 presidential campaign. Richard Buckminster Fuller Jr. July 12 1895 – July 1 1983 was an American architect systems theorist writer designer inventor philosopher and futurist. He styled his name as R. Buckminster Fuller in his writings publishing more than 30 books and coining or popularizing such terms as "Spaceship Earth" "Dymaxion" e.g. Dymaxion house Dymaxion car Dymaxion map "ephemeralization" "synergetics" and "tensegrity". Fuller developed numerous inventions mainly architectural designs and popularized the widely known geodesic dome; carbon molecules known as fullerenes were later named by scientists for their structural and mathematical resemblance to geodesic spheres. He also served as the second World President of Mensa International from 1974 to 1983. <br /> Fuller was awarded 28 United States patents and many honorary doctorates. In 1960 he was awarded the Frank P. Brown Medal from the Franklin Institute. He was elected an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1967 on the occasion of the 50-year reunion of his Harvard class of 1917 from which he had been expelled in his first year. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1968. The same year he was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member. He became a full Academician in 1970 and he received the Gold Medal award from the American Institute of Architects the same year. Also in 1970 Fuller received the title of Master Architect from Alpha Rho Chi APX the national fraternity for architecture and the allied arts. In 1976 he received the St. Louis Literary Award from the Saint Louis University Library Associates. In 1977 he received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement. The text reads May 7 1991 Dear Melody Your letter of April 26 1991 is one of the choicest letters I have received in my whole tenure in the United States Senate. For you to take the time and to be so kind has been very meaningful to me. Yes I am fond of Ted Kennedy. Even though we widely disagree on some matters we agree on many more and I intend to continue to work with him in the best interests of our country. As you know I am not only fond of Ted but I enjoy the repartee and give and take that has characterized our experience here together. I think he is very lucky to have people like you working with him. Of course Ted has always had really good people but none better than you. I hope everything goes well with you. Warmest personal regards signed Orrin Orrin G. Hatch United States Senator. Melody Jean Miller February 19 1945 - November 8 2022 was a Congressional staffer. She was an aide to the Kennedy family from the time she was a college intern for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Miller attended Pennsylvania State University studying education and political science. Miller married Paul McElligott and James Rogers before marrying William P. Wilson who worked for JFK and died in 2014. Wilson "negotiated the terms of Kennedy's historic first televised debate with Richard M. Nixon in 1960". She then spent thirty seven years working for Ted Kennedy as a legislative and press aide and then deputy press secretary. Orrin Grant Hatch March 22 1934 - April 23 2022 was an American attorney and politician who served as a United States senator from Utah from 1977 to 2019. Hatch's 42-year Senate tenure made him the longest-serving Republican U.S. senator in history overtaking Ted Stevens until Chuck Grassley surpassed him in 2023. Hatch chaired the Senate Committee on Health Education Labor and Pensions from 1981 to 1987. He served as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1995 to 2001 and from 2003 to 2005. On January 3 2015 after the 114th United States Congress was sworn in he became president pro tempore of the Senate. He was chair of the Senate Finance Committee from 2015 to 2019 and led efforts to pass the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Hatch "worked across the aisle to pass landmark legislation including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Children's Health Insurance Program". Though Hatch feared an investigation into the health effects of atmospheric nuclear testing in Nevada would endanger the nation's nuclear deterrence versus the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China by 1979 he was pushing for hearings on the issue before the Senate Labor Committee. Hatch prevailed on Committee Chairman Ted Kennedy to hold field hearings in Utah in 1980. At the end of 1980 Hatch was positioned to chair the committee himself. By 1984 Hatch had held a dozen hearings passed legislation requiring scientific investigation of the injuries and enlisted the aid of the National Science Foundation and National Cancer Institute but still could not muster the votes to get a financial compensation bill passed. Hatch persevered and The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act of 1990 provided compensation for citizens injured by radioactive fallout from the tests. Orrin G. Hatch unknown
