198737184Newtown PA: Bird & Bull Press 1987. Hardcover. Near Fine. Hardcover. Number 28 of 310 copies. The Bird & Bull Press was one of America's oldest private presses started in 1958 by Henry Morris - who describes a private press as "someone who prints books or ephemera related to his personal interests." By starting the press Morris was hoping to "make use of the product of a new hobby - hand paper-making." Many of the books published by Bird & Bull dealt with book related subjects such as paper-making printing illustration book binding and typography. Henry Morris and his press thus played an important role in the study preservation and dissemination of printing history. In 2013 Morris announced that he was ending his press's 55 years of activity due to advanced age and difficulty finding exciting projects.

An interesting book from the press on the history of marbling paper and its role in the production of decorated paper in the Near East Europe and the New World. Harrison studied at Selwyn College Cambridge and gained his Bachelor's degree in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Cambridge in 1970. He held a Prize Fellowship at Harvard from 1970 to 1975 and was awarded his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Harvard University in 1975. His first employment was in the Department of Prehistoric and Roman-British Antiquities at the British Museum from where he moved to the University of Bristol as a lecturer in 1976. In 1977 he was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and in 2003 to be a Corresponding Fellow of the Deutsches Archaeologisches Institut in Frankfurt Germany. Richard Harrison is known for his work on the Copper and Bronze Ages of Europe in particular Spain and Portugal. He began with an interest in the problems that the Bell Beaker culture poses which broadened to an interest in the reasons how and why prehistoric societies changed in the manner they did. He has conducted excavations in Spain on the remains of four Bronze Age villages dated 2600–1000 BC in the region of Aragón and published his findings. A collaborative project for a three-year study of Beaker cemeteries in Bavaria is supported by a grant from the Von Thyssen Stiftung. Its aim is to use the DNA preserved in ancient skeletons to determine patterns of kinship immigration and residence. This book attempts to give an intelligible account of the Copper Age in Western Europe of which the Bell Beaker culture forms an integral part. The information presented here is based largely on a representative selection of published primary material from several major regions of Europe as well as North Africa with a concentration on those publications which are the newest and most authoritative in their field p. 6. The author describes the development of the Bell Beaker complex in each of the areas selected discussing in turn variations within regions based to a large extent on the examination of the characteristic Bell Beaker pottery types as well as the cultural artifacts from various settlement and grave sites.
