8vo, cloth-backed boards, dust jacket. Fine copy. A Turn in the South is Mr. Naipaul's first book to speak directly to an American audience. It does sometimes take an outsider to help a culture see more clearly the things that are close to it. Naipaul demonstrates an astounding clarity of vision as he describes such places as Atlanta, Charleston, Tallahassee, Tuskegee, Jackson, Nashville and other places in the American South. We hear the voices of the people - black, white, rich poor, politicians, writers, farmers and ministers.

A very rare early 18th-century printed blank form for sea vessels likely from the press of William Bradford New York's first printer. The completed form would certify that the holder had cleared customs for a journey recording the name of his vessel and its tonnage arms crew origin and itinerary. The only recorded copies of this imprint have been found as endpapers in volumes of New York laws printed by William Bradford copies of which are held at the Library Company of Phialdelphia and at the Yale Law School Library. Further the final printed lines date the document to the reign of Queen Anne 1702-14 during which time Bradford was the only printer in New York. NAIP mzrecordcopy154.
