Sono trascorsi più di trent'anni dalla scomparsa di Raymond Aron (1905-1983), uno dei più grandi intellettuali europei della seconda metà del Novecento, ma la sua produzione scientifica - specie quella che ha avuto per oggetto le relazioni internazionali e la fenomenologia dei conflitti armati - riveste ancora oggi un grande interesse. Ma lo stesso può dirsi per i suoi lavori più "militanti" dedicati all'analisi critica delle ideologie contemporanee: dal marxismo al conservatorismo. E proprio a questi aspetti del pensiero aroniano sono dedicati i saggi di Alessandro Campi presentati in questo volume. Che richiamano l'attenzione, come si evince dal titolo stesso della raccolta, anche su un altro aspetto della personalità di Aron: la sua continua e virtuosa oscillazione tra ricerca accademica e giornalismo. Per lui l'universo della politica, nelle sue molteplici espressioni e varianti, è stato al tempo stesso un tema di studio scientifico, da condurre in modo freddo e oggettivo, e una passione civile, il che lo ha portato a intervenire pubblicamente (spesso in modo polemico) nei grandi dibattiti che hanno scandito la storia politico-culturale della Francia e dell'Europa dopo la fine della Seconda guerra mondiale. Professore universitario e pensatore "partecipante": due dimensioni che Aron - fedele al suo credo liberale e alla sua visione realista del mondo e della politica - è riuscito a coniugare grazie alla sua indipendenza dal potere...
