Very scarce T.L.S. 4to. 1 page King Records Cincinnati Ohio to Sid Prosen songwriter and record label owner best remembered for discovering Hank Williams and later Tom & Jerry better known as Simon and Garfunkel in full: "Received your letter of the 12th and as requested have had 75 of Hawkshaw Hawkins record #793 sent to your brother in Silver Springs Maryland. Hope he can do some good in that territory with it." Hawkshaw Hawkins stayed with Syd Nathan from 1947 until his death in a plane crash March 5th 1963 with fellow label mate Cowboy Copas and Patsy Cline. Boldly signed using his rather rare full signature "Sydney Nathan". Fine condition.<br/><br/> Iconic American music executive who founded the legendary King Records a leading independent record label in 1943. He was a major contributor to the development of country and western music rhythm and blues and rock and roll and is credited with discovering many prominent artists most notably James Brown. Nathan was elected to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.<br/><br/> unknown books

Mitchell was born near Lafayette Alabama on December 22 1883. He attended Tuskegee Institute and also studied at Columbia and Harvard. He founded the Armstrong Agricultural School in West Butler Alabama. Mitchell turned his attention to the law and after admission to the bar eventually moved to Chicago Illinois. He was the first African American to be elected to the U.S. Congress as a Democrat. He served four terms as an Illinois Congressman 1935-1943. He then returned to the practice of law and other endeavors. He died in 1968 and was interred on his farm near Petersburg Virginia. <br/><br/> unknown books

"Delbruck scattering" described the coherent scattering of light by electrostatic fields "The deviation from the Klein-Nishina formula that Meitner and her students had pursued for so long was finally explained: the 'missing' gamma radiation had been transformed into positron-electron pairs. The process later known as 'materialization' required gamma radiation in close proximity to a nucleus and was enhanced as Meitner and her students had found with increasing gamma energies and greater nuclear charge. Her last paper on the Klein-Nishina deviations was in press when this discovery was made. In a note added in proof Meitner's assistant Max Delbruck attributed the deviations from the Klein-Nishina formula to 'the positive electrons that are formed in various elements of middle to high atomic number by the gamma radiation from ThC" and even more readily by the harder gamma radiation from the reaction of alpha particles with Be.' After lengthy deliberation regarding Privy Councilor Pl. I have gained conviction that if you were to write a few cordial non-official lines they would find the same reception. Since Pl. himself didn't send out notices I believe an official letter of condolence would not be in order. This is my opinion the decision lies with you." 196840516Paris: np 1968. 55 x 43cm. Image of a silhouetted grinning male figure with an enlarged nose reading "Pom Pom La Chielit" which loosely translates to "Pom Pom the Shitty Mess". The nickname "Pom Pom" refers to Georges Pompidou the then Prime Minister and top aid to President Charles de Gaulle. The term "chienlit" was brought to notoriety by de Gaulle in an angry speech during the student protests when he used the vernacular term as a scatological pun "La reforme oui la che-en-lit non" meaning "Reform yes but chaos no." Subsequently the students reused the expression on leaflets and posters where silhouettes of political leaders were accompanied by confrontational slogans. <br/><br/> np unknown books

One of the most popular images of the May 1968 Paris student protests depicting the head of a presumed student bandaged and silenced with a safety pin only his eyes remaining unobscured. The text and image were appropriated in at least half a dozen iterations artists unknown. Complete issue somewhat uglified with heavy rust-stain from staples; stain affects a line of very old glue applied to left edge in an attempt to keep wraps fastened to textblock. Wraps detached anyway with ragged margins at the split. Reference copy; we suspect that remnants of candor show through. Note a slight disparity in date of publication doubtless trivial. Luce contributes a cocky reprise of Senior Class laments perhaps jauntier that most such; it is built around an apparently sincere appreciation of an Archibald MacLeish poem that denies that there are spiritual dimensions to natural life. the magazine unknown books

After searching my mind as to who would really appreciate these it occurred to me that I knew no one who would appreciate their beauty as examples of poster art more than yourself so here is a set."
