Nonostante i cambiamenti nelle scelte dei materiali l'artista è rimasto fedele a un processo pittorico che si basa su un deliberato <strong>appiattimento del piano dell'immagine</strong> su superfici accuratamente stratificate e su fonti di ispirazione diffuse. Nel corso degli anni sia dal punto di vista formale che concettuale Ofili ha reso omaggio e instaurato un dialogo con opere di artisti che vanno da William Hogarth Philip Guston Henri Matisse William Blake al gruppo Blue Rider. Friedrich Torberg konzipierte das FORVM nach seiner Rückkehr aus dem amerikanischen Exil. In der ersten Ausgabe vom Jänner 1954 wurde "An Stelle eines Leitartikels" die Blattlinie festgelegt, die das FORVM 42 Jahre lang prägte: "Wir sind also eindeutig antitotalitär, das schon. Aber einförmig? Ca non, par exemple!". Inhaltlich war Torbergs FORVM, das er zwölf Jahre lang als Chefredakteur und Mitherausgeber leitete, bestimmt durch den Wiederaufbau nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. In der Ära Nenning (1966 bis 1986) fiel die 68er Revolution. Es entfachten sich heftige Debatten und Polemiken zur Friedensbewegung, zur Frauen- und zur Öko-Bewegung. In den 42 Jahren publizierten im FORVM 2.121 AutorInnen, darunter Theodor W.
