The 1842 edition for 'The Comic Annual'.Much of this volume is dedicated to 'Miss Kilmansegg And Her Precious Leg' a satire poem about Miss Kilmansegg a spoilt daughter of a banker who insists on having an artificial limb made out of gold after losing one of her legs in a riding accident.Thomas Hood was a poet and humorist who regularly contributed to 'The London Magazine' and 'Punch'. Though Hood occasionally published serious works his successes were from his humorous poems. 'Comic Annual' was a publication that Hood ran from 1830 publishing caricatures of modern day with a serious malice and incessant puns.Illustrated with eleven plates and twenty-four in-text illustrations by John Leech.Collated bound without one plate to face page 96.Fourteen pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. in the original publisher's cloth binding.
