Contemporary small owner’s name in pencil on the contents page dated 1857 and stamped in ink on the first text page. Later owner’s name in ink on front free endpaper dated 1917. Rubbing to the spine joints and edges of the boards front joint is starting holding firm intermittent toning very good. An attractive copy of the first volume of this popular illustrated anthology of contemporary writings for children and young adults. Also known as Cassell’s Illustrated Readings conducted by Tom Hood OCLC states that this serial anthology commenced publication in 1866 and ended in 1868.
