Full color broadside with patriotic eagle stars and statues of Justice and Liberty. Some age-toning to the print with a small damp stain at the bottom of the print. Framed in a 19th century black wooden frame with gold inner border and glaze. The frame is dusty and worn. A Very Good broadside in good period frame. A roster of the soldiers from Company K 115th Regiment Ohio volunteers during the American Civil War. Mustered into service September 18th 1862. Spine and all corners bumped moderately rubbed; light scuffing to front and back boards; top edge of text block and endpapers lightly foxed. Good condition.<br /> <br /> The United States Congress established the Bureau of Ethnology in 1879. Directed by surveyor geologist and U.S. Army Major John Wesley Powell the Bureau collected European-American knowledge about Indigenous nations motivated by the false "vanishing race" theory that Indigenous cultures and ways of life were naturally fading out of existence - though in reality they were being displaced by the westward expansion of the United States government and European-American settlers. The Bureau of Ethnology gathered thousands of photographs illustrations and other documentation of Indigenous cultures until it merged with other divisions of the Smithsonian Institute in the 1960s. <br /> <br /> John Wesley Powell 1834-1902 was an American geologist U.S. Army soldier surveyor and explorer. He is most famous for his 1869 geographic expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers which resulted in thorough cartographic and scientific documentation of the rivers and surrounding canyon country including the Grand Canyon. Copyright page states 1894 but this is clearly reproduced from the plates of the original - this set is circa 1905. Volume 1 has very minor discoloration to edges of cloth on rear board minor wear to corners spine a bit faded. Complete in twelve hardcover volumes. Red half-leather gilt titles and decorations top edges gilt decorative endpapers. A complete collection of Abraham Lincoln's works including speeches letters biographical writings etc. with an introduction by John Wesley Hill and special articles by various other contributors. The editors were Lincoln's private secretary and assistant secretary and also served in various other governmental roles Hay going on to become Secretary of State under McKinley and Roosevelt. Nicolay and Hay are perhaps best known for their ten-volume biographical history of Lincoln's administration originally published serially in The Century Magazine beginning in 1886 -- it remains one of the more exhaustive and personal accounts of the life of the 16th President of the United States and is notable for the inclusion of facsimiles of original drafts of important documents most importantly the Emancipation Proclamation. James Hans Hamilton 1810 – 1863 was an Anglo-Irish Member of Parliament. Hamilton was the son of Hans Hamilton and Anne Mitchell. He matriculated at Christ Church Oxford on 17 June 1828. He was elected to the House of Commons for County Dublin in 1841 a seat he held until 1863. Hamilton married Caroline Trant daughter of John Frederick Trant. He died in June 1863 aged 53. His son Ion succeeded him as Member of Parliament for County Dublin and was elevated to the peerage as Baron HolmPatrick in 1897. A monument to him was erected in Skerries Dublin in 1870. .
