Mary Stanton 1837-1914 was a specialist in Phrenology who had developed her practice originally while tutoring and serving as a nannie to newspaper publisher Horace Greeley’s children after her second husband Jesse Hanks died leaving her and her four children destitute when his family seized the assets.
