La più bella e curata monografia dedicata all'opera e alla vita del grande illustratore e caricaturista francese celeberrimo per le sue illustrazioni dei periodici satirici “La Lune”, “L'Eclipse” e “Le Charivari”. Le sue caricature, sotto forma di grandi ritratti litografici colorati a mano, erano considerate molto accurate, divertenti ma mai crudeli, tanto che essere ritratti da lui era diventato, nella seconda metà dell'ottocento, un motivo d'orgoglio. Fra i personaggi ritratti, celebri furono i ritratti di Sarah Bernhardt, Otto von Bismarck, Émile Zola, Victor Hugo, Nadar, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Adelina Patti, Charles Dickens e Richard Wagner. Fra i personaggi che però non apprezzarono il proprio ritratto satirico ve ne fu uno che gli creò notevoli problemi, Napoleone III che censurò “La Lune”, anche se poi il giornale rinacque come “L'Eclipse”.
