He develops here a system of Christian Kabbalism, and discusses what is now known as 'The Kabbalistic Master Tablet of Princess Antonia.' Inglese naturalizzato americano, Gribbon viaggiò nell'India britannica, in Africa e medio Oriente; iniziò a pubblicare con lo pseudonimo Walter Galt per riviste specializzate, diventando presto popolarissimo; l'interesse per le religioni e la filosofia orientale lo fece avvicinare alla Teosofia (ebbe parte attiva nel movimento teosofico americano) da cui questo romanzo è ispirato. Apparso a puntate su "Adventure" nel 1924 col titolo "Om: The Secret of Ahbor Valley", poi in volume nello stesso anno presso Bobbs-Merrill; l'edizione inglese è del 1925; è il primo d'una trilogia: seguono: "The Devil's Guard"(Ramsden) e "Red Flame of Edinpura".
