The five volumes comprise The Chimes The Cricket On The Hearth The Battle Of Life The Haunted Man all 1904 and A Christmas Carol 1906 and although fragile at over a hundred years old they are an amazing and quant unretouched example of early miniatures all still readable. A collection of school and house lists for the Charterhouse a public school in Godalming Surrey. Originally founded by Thomas Sutton in 1611 on the site of the old Carthusian monastery in Charterhouse Square London the school is one of the original nine English public schools reported upon by the Clarendon Commission in 1864. A full-length view of the elegant artist in long painter's robes pointing a brush at a painting on an easel with three paintings including a miniature on the wall behind her and two paintings leaning against the same wall and a small sculpture on a painted clock behind the easel. Embroidered red velvet binding covered with silver wire 24°. Rare and early miniature binding H. 8 x W. 5.5 x D. 2.5 cm. / 3.15 x 2 x 1 inch. Bound with silver fine wire and with brass sequins. Gold edges. The covers are surrounded by a two-part multi-coloured border partly interwoven with silver wire in the corners stylised branches of golden wire and sequins in the centre a two-coloured embroidered bouquet with flowers of silver wire and coloured metal foils. It consists of five chapters and an appendix in which a very concise presentation of the essentials from both the Old and New Testaments is given. The beautiful binding was made by the ""Eerste Stadhouderlijke Bindererij"". This is the first edition of this work published by the publisher of the De Groot family.
