Eine sehr frühe Geschichte der Eisenbahn mit zahlreichen, sehr detailreichen Jugendstil-Zeichnungen von Dampflokomotiven und Details zu anderen Eisenbahneinrichtungen von den Anfängen bis 1893 sowie Portraits von wichtigen Persönlichkeiten aus der Eisenbahngeschichte und einem umfangreichen Index zu den behandelten und abgebildeten Lokomotiven. In einer Nachbemerkung weist der Autor daraufhin, dass das Buch, anders als im Impressum vermerkt, nicht 1894 sondern erst 1896 erschienen ist. Grund: Er sei damals mit einem Schlitten in Sibirien unterwegs gewesen, um die Pläne für die noch nicht fertigen Teile der transsibirischen Eisenbahn zu studieren. Nicht bei Metzeltin, in den letzten 20 Jahren auf keiner Auktion gehandelt. Hardcover Beide Deckel lose, Rücken unten gebrochen, stark beschabt, Kanten und Ecken bestossen, mit kleinen Fehlstellen.

La rivista annuale esordisce nel 1901 grazie all'iniziativa di Edoardo De Fonseca (1867-1936), intellettuale anglo-fiorentino appassionato d'arte. Viene considerata la più elevata espressione editoriale del Liberty italiano ("il manifesto della grafica moderna" la definì Paola Pallottino) e ricevette il Diploma d'onore all'Esposizione Internazionale di Milano del 1906. Presentandone il primo numero, De Fonseca dichiarò... "Noi, Novissima, sorgiamo con il nuovo secolo. Di questo, anno per anno, vogliamo essere l'illustrazione, il commento. Non cattedra, non tribuna. Genialità ci accompagni! Il nostro intento fu quello di far opera alta e degna". Le illustrazioni furono realizzati con una tecnica utilizzata raramente: la fotocromocollografia e furono disegnate da alcuni dei principali illustratori del periodo: una quarantina di pagine. di testo adornie di tavole a colori, in b/nero e in tinta monocroma di illustratori del calibro di Dudovich, Innocenti, Baruffi, Edoardo Rubino, Casorati, Carena, Brunelli, Terzi, Mataloni, Nomellini, Corcos, Majani, Balla, Bistolfi, Majani, Coromaldi, Costantini, Chini, Micheli, Terzi, Duilio Cambellotti... La rivista annuale, ricca di originali pubblicità, esordisce nel 1901 grazie all'iniziativa di Edoardo De Fonseca (1867-1936), intellettuale anglo-fiorentino appassionato d'arte. 0217Two 4" x 6" (105 x 148 mm) postcards. The first postcard shows a dam, drawn Art Deco style with clearcut geometric ocher and purple shapes with the illustrator's characteristic style upon a burgundy background. This postcard is SIGNED by Nick Gaetano with the mention "Thomas" on pencil. Back of the postcard features the pencil-written mention "Nick Gaetano, airbrush." The second postcard is white. Instead of an illustration, it features a handwritten note with pen: "07.23.[20]01 Thomas — sorry that it took so long — 7 years — [unreadable]" boldly SIGNED. Back of the postcard features the pencil-written mention "Nick Gaetano" and a pencil tracing of a dollar bill. The second postcard show a very light crease on the left half. Aside from that, both are in neat condition. Dubbed "the accidental Objectivist" in 2011, Nicholas Gaetano (1944-) is mostly known for designing covers for 10 Ayn Rand books. His 25th Anniversary Edition cover art for Atlas Shrugged made him seen in the whole United States. However, he "is also an award-winning artist, illustrator, and photographer whose work is in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian. He’s created covers for F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Wolfe, Dominick Dunne, H. P. Lovecraft, Agatha Christie, among many others. As an illustrator, he is best known for his distinctive Art Deco style, but Gaetano’s paintings tend toward the abstract. Cy Twombly is a recognizable influence. A recent series features fluid spills of black paint on plastic sheets. Gaetano has exhibited widely, most recently at Roberts & Tilton and the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art." (Interview Magazine, "The Accidental Objectivist", 2011) He now sells Ayn Rand-related or -inspired art at the Cordair art gallery. Gaetano's hand signatures are scarce and quite hard to find. This one stems from a personal friendship and from the pre-9/11 period. Whether framed and hung on a wall, placed on a support or simply put on a buffet top, this will be a fine piece for any Ayn Rand or Art Deco collector.

Chaque livraison comporte 88 et 94 pages non reliées, composées de doubles feuilles dans lesquelles sont intercalées des feuilles simples comportant généralement des illustrations hors-texte ou des publicités. Cinq rubriques différentiées composant chaque numéro:feuillets littéraires, feuillets du théâtre, feuillets des arts du dessin, feuillets de la musique et de la mode, une sixième rubrique, constituant un cahier autonome est intitulée feuillets de la publicité de la troisième à la sixième livraison.
