There was a Harper and Brothers edition in 1937 marked "First Edition" which is far more elaborately produced than this edition so we suspect this to be a reprint. publisher's cloth-backed boards illustrated in color in dust jacket. Light brown stain on the front endsheet; corners bumped and worn; light rubbing to edges. The jacket is lacking the bottom two inches of the spine; front joint split; one coin-sized chip to a corner with other smaller chips; light soiling and a few short closed tears. The film starred Angie Dickinson John Wayne Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson with Howard Hawks as director and Leigh Brackett and Jules Furthman as screen writers. The film was shot on location in Arizona. Texas Sheriff John Chance arrests Joe Burdette for murder. Joe’s powerful and wealthy brother Nathan gathers hired guns and surrounds the town determined to free him. Subsequently Sheriff Chance must fend off the gang with the help of a young gunfighter a disabled man and the town drunk. Alongside the action Sheriff Chance develops a romantic relationship with Feathers played by Angie Dickinson a sharp-witted gambler. One of the most entertaining Western films ever made from the standpoint of cinematography dialogue story economy direction and acting. The basis for the film is the book "Rio Bravo" written by Leigh Brackett and published as a paperback original in 1959 by Bantam Books.
