Very beautiful colour illustration by Théo Sardnal depicting Cyrus the Great. This rare document presents the tickets in the lower margin and solemnly specifies: "Le comité sera impitoyable pour tout costume qui ne sera pas de l'époque" "The committee will be ruthless with all costumes that are not of the era". The first Quat'z'Arts ball, a great celebration organised by the students of the École nationale des beaux-arts in Paris, took place on 23 April 1892. This tradition continued until 1966. A superb copy in bright colours and in new condition. [FRENCH VERSION FOLLOWS] Carte d'invitation au Bal des Quat'z'Arts intitulé "L'Entrée de Cyrus dans Babylone" qui se déroula le 22 juin 1925 à Wagram. Très belle illustration en couleurs de Théo Sardnal représentant Cyrus le Grand. Ce rare document présente bien les talons en marge basse et précise solennellement : "Le comité sera impitoyable pour tout costume qui ne sera pas de l'époque". Le premier bal des Quat'z'Arts, grande fête organisée par les étudiants de l'École nationale des beaux-arts de Paris, se déroula le 23 avril 1892. Cette tradition perdura jusqu'en 1966. Superbe exemplaire aux couleurs éclatantes et à l'état de neuf.

"Georges Tournon devait être un artiste parisien qui avait acquis une dextérité certaine dans l'art de croquer le petit peuple de la rue. Il avait une réelle prédilection pour repérer et dessiner d'après-nature des personnages de la misère d'entre les deux guerres. Clochards recroquevillés par le froid et la faim, couples de vieux assis sur un banc, vagabonds errants... il associait à ces exclus « au bout du rouleau », des vendeurs de « quasi-rien », qui, contre quelques sous, cédaient aux passants des fleurs, du mimosa, des plumeaux... ou jouaient de l'orgue de barbarie portatif à la sonorité si déchirante qu'on ne l'oublie pas une fois qu'on l'a entendue." Original printed wrappers with printers device of Baillieu of pair of skeletons supporting a shield inscribed with B. Title page repeating Baillieus device and with skeletal lettering forming the words Danse Macabre. Spine perished edges lightly chipped and wraps are loose but present; stains on pages 20 and 21. Sold as is. <br/><br/>This edition was issued in Paris in about 1862 although it is undated. It is the re-edition of the La Grand Danse Macabre Des Hommes et Des Femmes with designs printed from the wood blocks of the Troyes edition of 1641. The text is reproduced from the original 1486 Marchant edition. Facsimile copies of the medieval Dance of Death tale were highly popular in the 19th century. Contents well preserved clean. Very good overall. <br/><br/>Rich visual record documenting the Windemere Squares Dancing Club of Windemere Florida. Carefully assembled the album contains hundreds of B&W images of club social events dancing costume and yes square dancing. Shots are clear and well-composed arranged largely chronologically and further adorned with related scrap newspaper clippings about club correspondence and like. Generally dated and well-annotated an engaging primary document of Southern society and culture. hardcover books

Sul retro di una fotografia, in formato cartolina (dimensioni: 13,5 x 9 cm circa), datata 1937, rappresentante la celebre danzatrice e coreografa tedesca, è presente un ampio scritto a penna, in lingua tedesca, firmato per esteso "Mary Wigman". Mary Wigman (1886 - 1973) è considerata una delle massime esponenti della danza libera tedesca e pioniera della danza moderna. Mary Wigman, nata Karoline Sophie Marie Wiegmann, è stata una ballerina e coreografa tedesca, nota come pioniera della danza espressionista, della danzaterapia e dell'allenamento del movimento senza scarpe da punta. È considerata una delle figure più importanti nella storia della danza moderna . Divenne una delle figure più iconiche della cultura tedesca di Weimar e il suo lavoro fu acclamato per aver portato sul palco le esperienze esistenziali più profonde* Il foglio è indirizzato all'Onorevole Romolo Murri (intestazione stampata al fondo del foglio).** Sul margine inferiore destro della fotografia è presente l'indicazione a secco della famosa fotografa di danza ("Tanzfotografin"), come lei stessa ama definirsi, "Ch. Rudolph Dresden" (Charlotte Rudolph). Charlotte Rudolph (Dresda 1896 – Amburgo 1983) Nel 1920 vede per la prima volta Mary Wigman danzare. A questo incontro ne seguiranno altri che daranno inizio alla ventennale collaborazione delle due artiste. Lei stessa si definisce “Tanzfotografin”, ovvero fotografa di danza, poiché nel suo studio accoglie danzatrici provenienti da tutta Europa, prima fra tutte la concittadina Gret Palucca. Gli scatti che immortalano gli incredibili salti di Palucca riscuotono un grande successo già dal giugno 1924. Distribuite su riviste, giornali, album di figurine, le fotografie della Rudolph contribuiscono alla rapida notorietà delle due artiste, entrambe agli albori delle rispettive carriere. Rudolph spedisce alcuni di questi scatti a Mary Wigman (di cui Palucca era stata l’allieva), la quale incuriosita si reca nel suo atelier per farsi fotografare mentre si esibisce nella danza dal titolo Verhüllter Gestalt (Figura Velata). Da questo momento Rudolph seguirà costantemente la danza della Wigman fino al suo ritiro, nel 1942.* E' presente, in questo lotto, una seconda fotografia originale (di dimensioni: 15 x 10,5 cm circa) nuovamente ritraente l'artista, in mezzo ad altre ballerine. Sul retro di tale documento sono presenti diverse scritte (presumibilmente annotazioni del pittore Tito Livio De Madrazo) che indicano una località svizzera (in cui è stata scattata la fotografia) e la data: 1951. E' altresì presente l'indicazione (timbro) del fotografo Werner Mucher / fotograf, Bern (anch'egli noto come fotografo specializzato nello spettacolo). Si presume che le annotazioni a retro della fotografia siano opera del pittore De Madrazo in quanto le foto provengono da materiale da lui raccolto al fine di realizzare disegni di danzatrici. Stato di conservazione: Su entrambe le fotografie sono presenti evidenti segni del tempo e dell'uso: in particolare si segnalano pieghette e leggere stropicciature. Sulla foto scattata da Charlotte Rudolph è presente il segno di una vecchia graffetta sul margine superiore sinistro ( si veda la fotografia numero 5 sopra riportata). Sono altresì presenti alcune macchioline marroni e leggere abrasioni sul margine inferiore.
