Two black and white 8x10 photographs with some fading very good. <br /> <br /> The Andrieff Trio was a popular terpsichorean act in the 1920s Vaudeville scene made up of married couple Yasha and Marie Andrieff and Yasha's brother Andrew Andrieff. All three dancers were Russian and trained in both classical and popular dance styles. Their headlining act was what they called the "double face dance" where Marie danced with both men simultaneously and through clever costuming and choreography seemed to be perpetually facing the audience as her partners spun her around the stage.<br /> <br /> The group was scheduled to perform at the Bushwick Theater part of B.F. Keith's network of Vaudeville performance venues the week of September 3 1923. The picture of just Yasha and Marie is dated September 10 and inscribed to "our dear friend Mr. and Mrs. Klawans" likely referring to Bernard "Barney" Klawans the Broadway producer. unknown

The actress Kitty Carlisle thanks her good friend City Center producer Jean Dalrymple "What a good friend you are! I will follow the prescription to the letter & pray that its sic not too late!!" Signed "Kitty". The card is addressed in her hand on the verso and postmarked from New York on October 8 1985. Fine.</p><p>Inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1999 Kitty Carlisle Hart 1910-2007 was an American stage & screen actress opera singer and television personality. A spokesperson for the arts she served on the New York State Council for the Arts for 20 years. Kitty Carlisle played the leading lady opposite Groucho in the Marx Brothers movie "A Night at the Opera" and regularly appeared on "To Tell the Truth".</p><p>Jean Dalrymple 1902-1998 was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville appearing with James Cagney and Cary Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski Mary Martin Jose Iturbi Andre Kostalanetz Nathan Milstein and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943 serving as a board member producer and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951 Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. He asks if Willoughby could contact him when he's back. He goes on to invite Jean to the "second set of performances May 19-22 - featuring the first performance of Dominick Argento's monologue A Water Bird Talk and an incredible chamber opera written in Theresienstadt concentration camp - The Emperor of Atlantis." Signed in full "Ian Strasfogel". Folded for mailing the edges are very faintly darkened. Near fine. <p>The one-act opera "The Emperor of Atlantis or The Disobedience of Death" Der Kaiser von Atlantis oder Die Tod-Verweigerung was composed by Viktor Ullmann and Peter Kien while interned at the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1943. It was not allowed to be performed and the script was not finished until the 1970s. The poet Aaron Kramer prepared an English translation which the San Francisco Spring Opera Theater first performed in April 1977 and which had its New York premiere at the New Opera Theatre of the Brooklyn Academy of Music on May 19 1977. The world premiere of Dominic Argento's "A Water Bird Talk" also took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music that same evening.<p>The opera director and producer Ian Strasfogel born 1940 was the author of several plays screenplays and librettos and of a novel titled "Operaland". 1921100261<p>Milano January 15 1921. 1921. Very good. - Over 60 words penned in Italian on 10-1/2 inch high by 8-1/4 inch wide cream "Via Verdi 4 Milano" stationery. Puccini writes to the publishers Fratelli Treves on behalf of his friend the writer Enrico Pea. He addresses Guido Treves the nephew of the firm's founder Emilio Treves who took over the company upon Emilio's death in 1916. Guido Treves ran the company with his wife Antonietta. Puccini writes that there is a manuscript awaiting publication at Treves' house. It is from his dear friend the Apuan region poet Enrico Pea. He asks that publication be expedited as there is a second volume ready for print. Puccini states that he wrote to Beltrami Giovanni Beltrami the managing director at Fratelli Treves who promised that it would be published soon. Signed "tuo yours G. Puccini" followed by his regards to Guido's wife. Folded horizontally and vertically for mailing the letter is slightly creased at the corners with a couple of minuscule chips to the edges. Once mounted there are remnants of archival tape along the top edge of the verso.</p><p>Giacomo Puccini often enjoyed a table at the Antico Caffe di Simo in Lucca with his friend Enrico Pea.</p><p>The book being discussed by Puccini is without doubt the first volume in Pea's "Trilogia del Moscardino" simply titled "Moscardino" published by Fratelli Treves in 1922. The book was translated into English by Ezra Pound. It was reviewed in the January 1 2005 edition of the New York Review of Books: "A small masterpiece Pea's lyrical autobiographical novel paints a fiery and intimate portrait of an old man through the brushstrokes of his grandson. The passions and tensions between the old eccentric and his brothers play themselves out in mythical sketches before a vivid backdrop of the hills of Lunigiana. Moscardino the first novella of his tetralogy Il romanzo di Moscardino is anarchic and haunting. Pound conducts Pea's vernacular song allowing images to flow from the land the flesh and beyond."</p><p>Little needs to be said about the life of the great Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini 1858-1924 who composed several of the best known Italian operas. His works include "Manon Lescaut" "La Boheme" "Madama Butterfly" and "Turandot" among many other works.</p><p>The Italian poet novelist playwright and theatre impressario Enrico Pea 1881-1958 produced literary works that are said to be divided into two periods. The first being that of "Moscardino" and the second beginning with "Il Figlioccia" which takes on a softer delicate modulated style.</p> Milano, January 15, 1921.
