4671PORNOGRAPHIC WATERCOLORS. Album. 9pgs. 7 x 5. No date circa 1950s. Cleveland. A scrapbook of nine pornographic watercolors probably dating from the 1950s. On the back of the last page is a pencil note Drawn by an artist named Ganzman of Cleveland. Without giving away too many details the illustrations concern a relationship between Elsie May and Zeke and the drawings get more obscene as the book progresses. Finally Elsie Mays father a farmer shows up with a shotgun on the last page. Based on the misspellings the artist either wasnt a native English speaker or a poor speller. I do not believe this is the work of a teenage boy. The scrapbook is held together by two clasps and the edges have some wear and folds. unknown

1815G4JCUY01U79OFrance 1815. 20th-century red goatskin morocco sewn on 5 cords with the title "Gouaches érotiques" in gold in the 2nd of 6 spine compartments double-combed marbled endpapers pasted over the original marbled pastdown; spot pattern curled. 4to 26 x 21.5 cm. A matching set of 12 erotic drawings image area about 20 x 16 cm in coloured gouaches each showing a man and woman engaged in manual vaginal or oral sex in a richly furnished interior with furniture lamps clocks vases drapery mirrors books clothing architectural ornamentation etc. Each is drawn on thick paperboard and mounted on the album leaves. A matching set of 12 skilfully executed erotic gouache drawings in numerous colours each showing a naked or more often partly undressed young man and woman engaged in manual vaginal or oral sex. Each is set in an interior in at least most cases domestic most of them richly furnished. Though the drawings depict several different men and women some of them seem to appear in more than one drawing. One drawing appears to show a home library another includes a case full of books and two others have an open book lying on the floor. Another has the woman sitting on the man's lap before a writing desk with a quill pen in her hand. These may be intended to suggest that the man is the young lady's tutor and they got distracted from their lessons. The clothing suggests couples from fairly high social standing. The clothing architectural decoration furniture clocks lamps vases etc. much of it in Empire Style suggest a date around 1815 perhaps in France. The drawings are in good condition and the binding fine. unknown
LD11902n.p.: n.p. n.d. Hardcover. Near Fine. Full chestnut morocco boards and spine ornately stamped in gilt and blind including "Grevedon" in blind and "F.H." in gilt on upper board; oblong 8vo 305x235mm; contains 21 original pencil drawings each about 90x140mm mounted to the recto only one per leaf. Undated but likely drawn in the late-18th or early-19th century tho they could be as late as mid-19th; a pencilled notation on the FFEP indicates that the artist is Pierre-Louis Henri Grevedon and the drawings collected by Franklin De Haven. Just a little light wear to binding; internally very clean with the small leather ex-libris of American collector Robert Hoe.

Grevedon 1776-1860 was known for his beautiful portraits of young women and these bust-length portraits are no exception; showing all sorts of women some plainly dressed perhaps a maid and others in more extravagant costume coiffure headdress including a bride. Grevedon published several collections of drawings in his lifetime and some of his works now reside in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum Art Institute of Chicago Harvard and more. n.p. hardcover

The period of training was set at three years with the first year devoted to arithmetic geometry and drawing; the second year to descriptive geometry trigonometry and mechanical drawing of both stationary and moving parts; and the third year to industrial mechanics and advanced drafting techniques. This album affords a fascinating glimpse into the type and extent of the skills required of graduates of French technical schools in the mid-19th century. The course in design cours de dessins is structured and presented here in 4 sections: Troisieme division premiere annee; deuxieme division these drawings dated 1858-1859; deuxieme annee; and premiere division.
