Ludovico Cigoli?s Prospettiva Pratica (Practical Perspective) is both a work of artistic literature and a remarkable scientific document about the role attributed to the representation of the visible world within the scope of Galilean research. Composed by one of the painters closest to Galileo during the period of great astronomical discoveries (1610 -1613), the treatise illustrates several themes crucial to perspective drawing, from orthogonal projections to shadow projection, from theatrical scenes to the use of mechanical instruments. 736 gr. xxii-360 p.

152 pages. Black and white photographic plates. "This book does not claim to have said anything new, but is rather a reviewing of an old story through an individual lens which may bring into a new perspective the leading characters and events of that story. It is a story that can never be exhausted, and is always unfolding; that fact, and the narrow, unsatisfactory method of disconnecting teaching, and spiritualising in general practice, are my excuses for attempting to give it as one continual history, 'The Drama of the Ages', whose pivotal centre is Christ Himself and His teaching." - from Preface. Artist left us with a small book of pencil sketches and philosophical notes; and a legacy of mystery as to the man and the artist. Apart from one unsigned watercolour attributed to him, and the sketchbook of ideas and colour notes for possible later use, nothing else is known of Andrew Hamilton and his art. These prints show perception, accuracy, and delicacy of style, together with a mastery of perspective against the massive horizons of Otago's gaunt landscape. These eight prints selected form Hamilton's only verifiable work are a belated tribute to this little-known Victorian artist. Book
