This large facsimile of the most famous illuminated manuscript in the Bodleian Library was made possible by a substantial donation, made anonymously through the Friends of the Bodleian. Four of its pages are reproduced in full colour; Mr. W.A. Cadbury, Mr. A. Chester Beatty, Mr. C.W. Dyson Perrins, and Mr. C.H. St. John Hornby having each of them contributed the cost of the colour plate. The descriptive text has been written by Dr. M.R. James.

Folio, iv, 24pp., 2 fine chromolithographed plates framed in gilt, margin tear to one leaf, orig. cloth, uncut. This account was printed for the bookseller firm of Pearson & Co. in 50 copies, it was purchased by Pierpont Morgan in ca. 1911; the MS. is now M.21 in the Pierpont Morgan Library.
Folio, [x],61,[1]pp., coloured frontis., 1 coloured plate, 183 monochrome plates, title in red and black, orig. gilt buckram, a little rubbed and stained, uncut. Reproduces all the important illustrations from this great English manuscript from the East Anglia school, dating from about 1340 A.D. The reproductions are on the scale of the original and the two fine colour plates accurately present the splendid colouring of the MS.

A very nice set of Beatty's luxurious catalogue, prepared by Eric George Millar, curator of manuscripts at the British Museum. Beatty formed his superb collection in a mere six-year period. Beatty projected six volumes (each similarly divided into text and plates) to the series in his foreword, but these four were the only volumes issued; the last would have contained descriptions of manuscripts from the later Middle Ages.

Dyson Perrins formed his collection early in the twentieth century when exceptional manuscripts of this type, though rare enough, were by no means unobtainable, and it seems unlikely that any series of quite such quality will come on the market again.
