Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem (1620-1683) was a highly esteemed and prolific Dutch Golden Age painter of pastoral landscapes, populated with mythological or biblical figures, and Johann Heinrich Roos (1631-1685) a German Baroque era landscape painter and etcher. The only other copy located is that at the New York Public Library.

Laid in is a manuscript text booklet by the artist, explaining the creation of this copy (it was printed for a prominent Italian opera singer) and providing the excerpts from the Divine Comedy on which her drypoints are based.
