The work offers a glimpse into life during the First Yeshuv and the experiences of the Jewish community in the Galilee region of Ottoman-controlled Palestine of the early-mid 18th century. The book specifically relates to Berab's experiences living in and around Tiberias now Northern Israel and the historical events that occurred there during the period. The work also includes poetry. The original edition of the work was published in Mantua circa 1744 or 1745. Text throughout includes large initials is often printed in Rashi script and is organized in single and multi-column formats. John Brown and Sons was a Hardware and Machinests' Supplies firm on Pratt Street in Baltimore and their letterhead makes up the bookplate. Possibly related directly to the Abolishonist thus a unique association piece. Certainly associated to the hardware store where the first man to die in the Civil Ware was removed to after he was shot but before he died and where he was given first aid by the store owner. This Hebrew-German and German-Hebrew dictionary inspired by the works of David Kimhi is arranged in alphabetical order e.g. in the German section verbs with prefixes are listed alphabetically according to the prefixes; the definitions of the terms often include synonyms and examples of usage taken either from the Bible directly or cited in sentences formulated in biblical style; the German terms are written in Hebrew characters. Ben Ze'ev laid the basis for the modern Hebrew terminology in linguistics translating grammatical terms from German into Hebrew and indicating their German equivalent. Age-wear on binding with book block split in two. Heavy rubbing on spine and covers with abrasion along edges. Head and tail of spine chipped. Augmented with a fine involved frontispiece five large historiated initial letters and a vignette tot title page. Considered roundly to be one of Aubrey Beardsley's finest works he having just completed the art-editing and illustration of The Yellow Book which ran from 1895-1897. Vincent O'Sullivan adds a warm comprehensive biography of one of the 17th century giants of art culture and literature Ben Jonson and Robert Ross pays due homage to Aubrey Beardsley's life and works too. Volume 2: xciii/585pp foreedge of front board has been bumped leaving a quarter inch area of damage; light marks on front and rear boards. Volume 3: 624pp on page has a large closed tear which has been repaired; boards have a few marks and an area of wear on rear about an inch long.
