Edges rubbed corners bumped binding firm and contents clean. No dustjacket. Internally good with text being clear and artwork remaining vivid. No. 3 in a series which presented some key examples of multi-part works of art designed for the decoration of specific buildings from the mosaics of St Mark's cathedral in Venice to Raphael's frescoes for the Vatican. This volume examines the fresco cycle by Mantegna in the Ducal Palace at Mantua with an introduction critical notes and Bibliography in Italian diagram of the villa 30 pages of colour plates including one 4-page fold out and 22pp of B/w plates. The plates include details of ceilings and upper walls which are hard to view in situ and prints by Mantegna which are related to the frescoes. A facsimile collection. Minotaure is a surrealist-inspired magazine that was published from 1933 to 1939 in Paris under the joint leadership of editors Albert Skira a Swiss art publisher and Stratis Eleftheriadis a French art critic and publisher of Greek origin known as Teriade. In the tradition of Christian Zervos's Cahiers d'Art this review was devoted to contemporary art and aimed to curate a careful aesthetic. The magazine offered a certain number of artists a platform publishing theses and poetic works as well as becoming a space for visibility reproducing the works of then little-known painters or sculptors such as Alberto Giacometti Hans Bellmer Paul Delvaux or Roberto Matta. The first issue appeared in 1933 with a cover by Pablo Picasso. Slowly the writing moved away from only art opening up to articles on music and architecture notably written by the artists themselves. These volumes contain the complete thirteen issues with reproductions of the original covers with volume one containing those published in 1933 volume two those published from 1934 to 1936 and volume three containing those published in 1936 to 1939.
