Soft cover 21 cm 252 pp. 96 B/W pictures. <br /><br />Presents largely unpublished material from the photographic archives of architect Aristotelis Zachos depicting Thessaloniki during the period 1912-1917. It is prefaced by Museum director Prof. Angelos Delivorrias and is accompanied by informative texts entitled Thessaloniki through the lens of Aristotelis Zachos by Associate Professor Maro Kardamitsi-Adami and a Brief History of Thessaloniki by Professor Nikolaos Moutsopoulos known scholar of the architecture of Thessaloniki who also contributed the captions to the 91 published photographs. As pointed out by Prof. Kardamitsi-Adami we believe that the camera eye of Aristotelis Zachos has a significant particularity. These are not themes that some photographer known or not has selected at random or on the basis of journalistic social or cultural criteria. The camera eye of Zachos is that of an architect. He focuses on the whole or on a detail aiming each time to record the city a monument or a fountain so that it can be used as a feature in research and design. He does not try to beautify his theme or play with shadows. His photographs are reminiscent of an architectural sketch they are tools of his trade. At the same time however they have their own particular charm.<br /><br />En este album se presenta aquella parte del archivo fotografico inedito en su mayoria de Aristotelis Zachos relacionado con la Salonica del periodo 1912-17. La edicion esta prologada por el director del Museo Benaki Prof. A. Delivorrias y acompanada de los textos ilustrativos Salonica a traves del objetivo de Aristotelis Zachos de la Prof. Titular Maro Kardamitsi-Adami y Breve historia de Salonica del Prof. Nikolaos Moutsopoulos conocido estudioso de la arquitectura de Salonica que ha elaborado los comentarios/notas a las 91 fotografias publicadas. Como refiere M. Kardamitsi-Adami .creemos que el objetivo de Aristotelis Zachos tiene una peculiaridad importante. No se trata de asuntos que un fotografo conocido o no elige al azar o con criterios periodisticos sociales culturales. El objetivo de Zachos es la lente del arquitecto. Enfoca el conjunto o el detalle aspirando cada vez a reflejar la ciudad el monumento la fuente de manera que puedan ser utilizados como elemento de investigacion y estudio. No intenta embellecer su tema jugar con la sombras. Sus fotografias recuerdan el boceto arquitectonico son una herramienta de trabajo. Pero al mismo tiempo tienen un extrano atractivo propio.
