In-12 (158 x 88 mm), plein veau brun de l'époque, dos à 5 nerfs orné de compartiments fleuronnés, tranches mouchetées, (8), 222, (10) p. Edition originale. La Fontaine, ami de Benserade, publia ses fables en 1668. Ce dernier fit de même dix ans plus tard, toujours tirées d’Ésope. Mis en quatrains, elles étaient destinées à être gravées pour légender le groupe de figures représentant les héros du fabuliste grec qui décoraient le labyrinthe de Versailles créé par André Le Nôtre entre 1672 et 1677 pour l'éducation du dauphin, fils de Louis XIV. Chaque quatrain, au nombre de 220, est ici illustré d'un joli bois gravé en médaillon. On retrouve les plus célèbres fables comme Le Loup et l'Agneau, Le Corbeau et le Renard, La Cigale et la Fourmi, Le Chêne et le Roseau, etc., etc. La liberté de ces quatrains déplut à l'entourage religieux du Dauphin et La Bruyère se rangea à cette opinion. "Trente-neuf de ces apologues devaient être gravés sur le socle des groupes en plomb doré, qui représentaient des scènes ésopiques et décoraient le bosquet du Labyrinthe. La concision était donc naturellement de rigueur dont les petits médaillons ovales ont été taillés par Pierre Le Sueur selon la meilleure tradition du XVIe" (Emile Dacier, 'La gravure française', p. 51). Dramaturge et poète français, Isaac de Benserade (1612-1691) fut notamment l'auteur de livrets pour Lully. Homme d'esprit très en vue en son temps, académicien en 1674, il fut l'ami et le pensionné de Richelieu et de Mazarin. Charnières et dos restaurés. Signature ex-libris biffée au titre. <p>25 x 21 cm, album oblungo ad anelle metalliche, cartoncino editoriale illustrato a colori con tecnica cromolitografica, titoli in rilievo. Pagine (1), 12. Una pagina di testo con l'elenco degli architetti dei padiglioni e 12 grandi fotografie originali in bianco e nero a tutta pagina su carta fotografica lucida (25x21 cm). Alcune vedute d'insieme dell'exposition, dove compare anche il padiglione dell'Italia dell'architetto Marcello Piacentni ed i dettagli dei singoli padiglioni più rappresentativi come quello della Germania nazista di Albert Speer e dell'architettura stalinista russa di Boris Iofan che fronteggiavano sul Trocadéro. In copertina interessante composizione grafica con il logo dell'esposizione sovrapposto ad una veduta fotografica della città, il tutto incorniciato da bandiere dove spicca la bandiera della Germania con la svastica nazista e quella della Russia comunista con falce e martello. Leggero alone alla prima copertina, fotografie ottimamente conservate. Raccolta assai rara, che si distingue per formato e qualità dalle più comuni raccolte fotografiche delle architetture dell'exposition del 1937.</p>
Il foglio (cm. 50 x 38,5) deriva dal volume del Meyer (“L’arte di restituire a Roma la tralasciata navigazione del suo Tevere”) ma - come nel volume - include la dicitura dello stampatore (Tinassi). Vistoso restauro al centro della pagina. This leaf, printed on both sides, derives from the notorius Meyer’s work: “L’arte di restituire a Roma la tralasciata navigazione del suo Tevere” (Roma, Camera apostolica, 1683). As like in the volume, the etching includes the printer’s note (Tinassi). Restoration at center of the leaf.
