Prior to the commonplace use of air conditioning wire screens were vital for insect control as well as contributing to airflow within the homes. Higgin 1844-1926 first founded the company in 1893 and in 1897 took over the Palm Beach Building at the southeast corner of 5th & Washington and operated until 1935 when the company went bankrupt during the Great Depression.
