A retrospective exhibition by Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely began on Feb. 2 in Istanbul's Tophane-i Amire Culture and Arts Center with the contributions of Arkas Holding. Vasarely is renowned as the "grandfather" and leader of the op art movement, a styl eof visual art that uses optical illusions. Professor Yalcin Karayagiz from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSU), which is hosting the exhibition, told state-run Anadolu Agency that the artist became prominent in Turkey's academic circles in the 1980s. "Methods that he used require serious mathematical solutions. And you unite it with physics and optical illusion. I mean everything you see as a circle is actually made up of cubes", Karayagiz said. He noted that Vasarely's art was the continuation of Bauhous arts.

Hij is niet alleen bekend bij kunsthistorici en architecten, maar ook bij het grote publiek al was het maar omdat zijn portret ooit een bankbiljet sierde. De befaamde Belgische architect drukte zijn stempel op de architectuur van de twintigste eeuw. Mijn ster was getaand, maar niet mijn architectuur, denk ik , stelde Horta in 1939, toen hij zijn Memoires schreef, met gemengde gevoelens vast. Zijn architectuur is inderdaad niet gereduceerd tot een voetnoot in de geschiedenis, integendeel. Sinds 2000 worden vier van de door hem ontworpen woningen Tassel, Solvay, Van Eetvelde en zijn eigen woning door de Unesco erkend als werelderfgoed. Dit eerbetoon op zich volstaat al om de ster van Horta te doen schijnen. Deze biografie zal haar nog meer glans geven.

Il s agit d une plus-value bien reelle car elle conduit a une lecture correcte de son uvre. Mon etoile etait palie, mais pas mon architecture, je pense, ainsi que Horta, de retour a la redaction de ses Memoires, en 1939, le constatait avec des sentiments meles. Et, dans les faits, son architecture n est pas du tout reduite a une note en bas de page dans l histoire, tout au contraire. Depuis l an 2000, quatre de ses hotels particuliers Tassel, Solvay, Van Eetvelde et sa propre maison - ont ete inscrits au patrimoine de l humanite dans la liste de l Unesco. Cet hommage implique deja en soi le rallumage de l etoile Horta au firmament. Cette biographie lui restitue toute sa lumier
