I primi due volumi sono di Guido Maragoni mentre il terzo ed il quarto sono a firma di Alberto Clementi. Terza edizione a cura di Alberto Clementi, 1961 (volumi I e II); seconda edizione 1962 (Volumi III e volume "L'arte dell'arredamento"). Molto ricco l'apparato iconografico di questa opera che consta in numerose immagini fotografiche in nero nel testo e di numerose (99 in totale) tavole fotografiche, a piena pagina, sia a colori che in nero. Opera decisamente esaustiva sul tema della storia dell'arredamento (vengono trattate diverse epoche storiche e diversi oggetti che rientrano nel mondo dell'arredamento: mobili, carte da parati, illuminazione, arazzi, ceramiche, stoffe, oggetti in ferro battuto o in vetro, porcellane,..). Gli ultimi due volumi sono incentrati sull'epoca moderna e sul '900 e trattano numerosi stili (liberty, art Nouveau, ...) e numerosissimi designer italiani e stranieri. Questo saggio mette a fuoco alcuni aspetti del rapporto dell’architettura di Le Corbusier con il mondo classico. L’autrice si è basata sulle fonti documentarie del periodo della prima formazione dell’architetto, iniziata tra le montagne di La-Chaux-de-Fonds, suo villaggio natale, e proseguita con i viaggi prima a Berlino, poi a Parigi, Vienna, Grecia e Italia. Qui rimane affascinato dalle raffigurazioni dei paesaggi archeologici di Atene, Pompei e Roma, dalle loro forme incomplete e dal rapporto fra i ruderi e il paesaggio naturale. Con il Voyage d’Orient avvenuto nel 1911 si consolida infine la relazione fra la sua idea di architettura e le regole che costruiscono la purezza del Sapere Antico. Partendo da questi spunti, il volume scandaglia il processo creativo di Le Corbusier e propone una lettura sistematica delle evidenze riguardo alle relazioni fra produzione progettuale e fascinazione delle rovine. Emerge una ricorrenza di forme esteticamente attraenti per il portato plastico, per la sintassi spaziale e per la loro dislocazione nel progetto. Autori: Chiara Roma.
