Born In Springfield Ohio Conway Griffith1863-1924 Is Known For Landscape And Some Marine Painting. He Was Raised In A Cultured Family And Both He And His Brother Armand Harrold Conway Became Recognized Artists. At Age 17 Conway Went To New York City And Became A Student Of William Merritt Chase And Wayne Gifford And Then For Several Years He Taught A Special Method Of China Painting On The Faculty At The Cincinnati School Of Design. However Problems With His Health Took Him West In The 1890S. In Denver Where He Lived On A Cattle Ranch He Studied Landscape Painting And Also Made Trips To Mexico And California In 1898 Moving To Southern California Permanently In 1904. He First Lived On Catalina Island Later Moving To Laguna Beach Where He Was A Member Of The Laguna Beach Art Association. Exhibition At The Steckel Gallery In 1912. John Clark "Jack" Okey June 3 1889 - January 8 1963 Was An American Art Director. He Was Raised In Los Angeles And Attended The Harvard School For Boys. After Leaving He Was Given Instruction In Art By His Uncle The California Artist J. Bond Francisco. While He Was In His Early 20S He Traveled To Paris With His Friend Stanton Macdonald Wright And Spent Several Years There Studying Art. Around The Time Of His Marriage In 1913 He Became Involved In The Nascent Film Industry In The Los Angeles Area And Was Involved In The Design And Construction Of Some Of The Earliest Studios There. He Continued In The Film Industry As An Art Director Until His Retirement In 1959. In The Mid-1930S He Spent Several Years In England Working For Alexander Korda Designing Studios For Him. After His Return To The United States He Spent The Remainder Of His Active Career Working For Rko. He Was Nominated For Two Academy Awards For Art Direction 1929 And 1944 But His Best Known Film Is "It'S A Wonderful Life". <br/> <br/> unknown
