Moore, un portrait au frontispice et 150 planches sur vélin. Plusieurs graveurs et de nombreuses planches non signées : Engleheart, Armstrong, Adlard, Davenport, Chevalier, Chavanne... Reliure d'éditeur en plein chagrin brun. Dos à nerfs orné de 5 petits fleurons encadrés de fers à froid, roulettes en queue et en tête et sur les nerfs. Grande plaque décorative composée de feuillages et d'ornements géométriques sur les plats avec un grand cartouche central, le nom de Hogarth en or sur le plat supérieur, à froid sur le plat inférieur. Tranches dorées. Exemplaire très frais, avec ses serpentes, avec parfois de rares petites piqûres. Quelques traces de frottement, sinon splendide exemplaire dans une riche reliure d'éditeur. Le volumes rassemble les oeuvres de Hogarth : Volume 1 : Rake's progress (13 planches) ; Harlot's progress (14 planches) ; Times of the day (23 planches) ; France and England (10 planches) ; Beer street and gin lane (7 planches). Un frontispice, un titre gravé et 76 vignettes en en-tête gravées par Corbould et Dent. Reliure anglaise en plein maroquin vert sapin à longs grains d'époque. Dos à faux nerfs plats très richement orné de 3 compositions décoratives complexes et de divers filets, roulette en queue et tête. Titres dorés. Pastille en queue de maroquin rouge portant un numéro de bibliothèque. Large frise à froid et doré d'encadrement sur les plats, séries de filets à froid et dorés. Tranches dorées. Traces de frottement. Un léger accroc en coiffe de tête. Plusieurs rayures sur les plats. Pâles rousseurs sur le frontispice et le titre sinon le reste parfaitement frais et exempt de rousseurs. Très bel exemplaire. Commentaire des oeuvres de Hogarth. Le sous-titre de l'édition parue en 1768 était rédigé ainsi : With an explanation, pointing out the many beauties that may have hitherto escaped notice; and a comment on their moral tendency.
