Folio, First Edition, pages Japan folded, with coloured illustrated title and very numerous full-page and smaller coloured illustrations throughout, neat inscriptions (contemporary and later) on half-title, some light marginal age-staining to text; pictorial boards, green cloth back and corners, wire-stitched as issued, covers mildly age-soiled and frayed (but without major wear), stitches rusting slightly, expertly recased with new endpapers to style, a very good, bright, clean copy. Shepherd's charming illustrations of the three Foxhound puppies are among the finest of his animal sketches, and a cornerstone of animal caricature of the Edwardian period. THE ORIGINAL EDITION IS EXTREMELY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
