One woodblock-engraved printed linen scarf in red & black decorative borders sewn at left fore-edge minor age toning some spotting & soiling very slight foxing old pin-holes at corners still a VG exemplar. First edition of this nicely printed woodblock-engraved souvenir linen scarf for the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition held in Philadelphia that year featuring the Art Gallery now known as Memorial Hall and the only large exhibit building still standing on the Exposition site. The Memorial Hall was designed by Herman Schwarzmann in a beaux-arts style and reopened in 1877 as the Pennsylvania Museum of Art and included originally the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art. The building now houses the “Please Touch Museum†children’s museum and through assorted funding issues managed to emerge from bankruptcy in 2016 and continue to operate. [n.p.], unknown

[1870] 28pp., 18cm., brochure originale fragile (quelques déchirures restaurées), très rare, [Le Musée Ghémar était un musée satirique éphémère à Bruxelles, fondé par le photographe et artiste Louis Ghémar (1819-1873). Le musée était réputé pour ses "expositions fantaisistes" dans lesquelles Ghémar tournait en dérision le monde de l'art de l'époque en présentant des parodies et des pastiches de maîtres célèbres. Au cours de son existence, le musée a changé de lieu à plusieurs reprises. L'exposition de 1870, dont on offre ici le catalogue (contenant la description de 118 objets exposés), fut la plus mémorable. Ghémar utilisa le collecteur de la Senne, alors en construction, comme espace d'exposition souterrain. Après le décès soudain de l'artiste en 1873, son épouse ferma le musée. La collection fut dispersée en 1877 lors d'une vente aux enchères publique à l'Hôtel Drouot à Paris.], S121024

Wrappers. <strong>The first 21 pages of the present catalogue contain a notice on Spanish painting. </strong>Don Alejandro María Aguado y Ramírez de Estenoz 1st Marquis de Las Marismas del Guadalquivir Seville June 29 1784 Gijon April 14 1842 Spanish banker was born of Old Christian parentage originally from La Rioja at Seville. He began life as a soldier fighting with distinction in the Spanish War of Independence first against French then on the side of Joseph Bonaparte. After the Battle of Baylen 1808 he entered the French army in which he rose to be colonel and aide-de-camp to Marshal Soult. He was exiled in 1815 and immediately started business as a commission-agent in Paris where chiefly through his family connections in Havana and Mexico he acquired in a few years enough wealth to enable him to undertake banking. The Spanish government gave him full powers to negotiate the loans of 1823 1828 1830 and 1831; and Ferdinand VII. rewarded him with the title of marquis the decorations of several orders and valuable mining concessions in Spain. Aguado also negotiated the Greek loan of 1834. In 1828 having become possessed of large estates in France including the Château Margaux famous for its wine he was naturalized as a French citizen. He died at in Spain on April 14 1842 leaving a fortune 'computed at 60000000 francs and a splendid collection of pictures which at his death was sold by auction.</p>
