[1870] 28pp., 18cm., brochure originale fragile (quelques déchirures restaurées), très rare, [Le Musée Ghémar était un musée satirique éphémère à Bruxelles, fondé par le photographe et artiste Louis Ghémar (1819-1873). Le musée était réputé pour ses "expositions fantaisistes" dans lesquelles Ghémar tournait en dérision le monde de l'art de l'époque en présentant des parodies et des pastiches de maîtres célèbres. Au cours de son existence, le musée a changé de lieu à plusieurs reprises. L'exposition de 1870, dont on offre ici le catalogue (contenant la description de 118 objets exposés), fut la plus mémorable. Ghémar utilisa le collecteur de la Senne, alors en construction, comme espace d'exposition souterrain. Après le décès soudain de l'artiste en 1873, son épouse ferma le musée. La collection fut dispersée en 1877 lors d'une vente aux enchères publique à l'Hôtel Drouot à Paris.], S121024

First edition of this nicely printed woodblock-engraved souvenir linen scarf for the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition held in Philadelphia that year featuring the Art Gallery now known as Memorial Hall and the only large exhibit building still standing on the Exposition site. The Memorial Hall was designed by Herman Schwarzmann in a beaux-arts style and reopened in 1877 as the Pennsylvania Museum of Art and included originally the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art. The building now houses the “Please Touch Museum†children’s museum and through assorted funding issues managed to emerge from bankruptcy in 2016 and continue to operate. [n.p.], unknown
