This aspect of the midway was an exploitative carnie-like objectification of human beings featuring a Kurd a female Turkish dancer swordsmen from Damascus a "donkey boy" from Cairo et al. Scarce: OCLC locates only two cataloged institutional copies at the University of Michigan and the Michigan State Library. Now housed in a removable clear archival sleeve with an acid-free backing. As part of the Columbian Exposition a world's fair hosted in 1893 the Women's Congress convened to establish a building constructed by and for women to promote the work of women architects artists writers and entrepreneurs. This monograph was prepared to accompany the exhibition in London at the Cortesi Gallery, from May 26 to July 22, 2016. Exhibition curated by Ilaria Bignotti, who also edited the catalog and writes the title essay 'The Concrete Utopia: Ivan Picelj and New Tendencies 1961- 1973'. The exhibition explored the work of Ivan Picelj (1924- 2011) and his contributions to the 1960's art movement New Tendencies. Bibliography. 12" high X 8" wide, 150 pages. Folio. 17 x 14 in. 1 leaf printed on yellow-tinted paper fold creases from mailing minor shelfwear still VG copy from the library of Prof. Marvin Nathan. First edition of this very scarce original broadside announcing the dismantling of one of the “Gayway†attractions at the Golden Gate International Exposition which featured “Nude Artist’s Models†revues and the very popular Folies Bergeres striptease burlesque shows. These were amongst the “Adults Only†shows at the GGIE and this scarce broadside circular served for the aspiring nostalgia buff as their “Pass to Treasure Island.†Barnard 1894-1966 was a San Francisco hardware dealer who also specialized in architectural salvage and later sold Mid-Century Modern furnishings following World War II. He participated as one of the main auctioneers disposing of GGIE fixtures following the attack on Pearl Harbor and conversion of Treasure Island into a Naval Base rather than the originally planned housing development.
