In still 1D 75 R70-11 Jack Lemmon stands in place at upper center as director Wilder front center works out a moment the camera and crew at left. Tear at mid right border edge. Additionally signed by the 2 authors Kubicek and Wirth on the colophon page.<br/><br/>The book is notable for containing seven early photomechanical images by Josef Sudek most dated 1931 in the caption and a portrait engraving as a frontispiece by Max Svabinsky a well known Czech artist. Photographic image. <br/><br/>"This propaganda poster was issued by artists and writers united in protest against U.S. government policies under President Richard M. Nixon who was elected in 1968. In 1972 Nixon ran for re-election defeating the Democrat George McGovern. The Nixon campaign slogan was "Four More Years." This poster subverts the slogan asking instead whether Americans really wanted four more years of Nixon presidency. Printed over Ron L. Haeberle's well-known and disturbing image of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam the message creates a stark association between controversial American foreign policy and savage brutality. The image supplies its own answer to the leading question implying that four more years under Nixon's administration could lead to further violence and subjugation. Later in 1972 Nixon's Watergate scandal emerged eventually forcing the President to resign." V&A description A very handsome copy of a remarkably strong piece of political commentary/protest. Cardboard portfolio with ties and tipped-on facsimile of woman's head. 50 leaves inside contents 46 of 47 called for images 1 duplicate image one uncalled-for image and reproduction of written text by Pennell. "This unique collection of drawings was contributed to the "American Artist's War Emergency Fund" by forty-seven American artists to be disposed of for the benefit of this fund." Second leaf is a lithograph of a handwritten brief essay on lithography by Joseph Pennell. 37th drawing in the portfolio is also by Pennell. This copy has two copies of a contribution by Henry Walker and lacks the contribution listed for Ben Foster. There is however an unlisted contribution by G.H. Academy Award-nominated classic for which Hitchcock beautifully blended suspense action and comedy. There was also a bold political statement made just as the entire world went to war that neutrality will not work when others are bent on war. This film along with Rebecca which would win many of the Oscars that year made a huge impression on America during Hitchcock's first year of Hollywood film making. Gary Cooper and Joan Fontaine were the director's first choices for the leads played by McCrea and Day. This half sheet has a much stronger design than the film's one sheet poster and it is always a frustratingly elusive piece to find. This poster has been cleaned and is in beautifully preserved condition paper-backed with the strong center fold addressed with minor touch-up.
