This pamphlet of artistic "head-torso-legs" examples of The Exquisite Corpse was published by Printworks Gallery to celebrate the turn of the century. Minor rubbing to the paper covers. Remains well-preserved overall. Physical description: 104cm x 68.5cm. Synopsis: Peter Gifford is a likable dedicated schoolteacher that teaches a senior life skills class. When student Janet Sommers brings up the topic of sex and dating he asks students to write questions on the topic and will cover them in the next class. The parents get wind of what Gifford is about to do notify the principal and he warns Peter not to read the questions in class. Gifford decides to go against this and is suspended. Judging by the included brochure of Silverman publications this is likely the least offensive booklet in the catalog--other titles promise a method of looking up skirts without being caught or the ten dollar system for convincing teen girls to strip naked for you: "We have been receiving complaints from various Women's-Lib groups. It seems they are quite upset with our offer. As publishers of the STRIPPING HER NAKED method we assure you that 'The Method' is perfectly legal We cannot help it if some women are angry just because we've discovered a way that man can see teenage girls without their clothes on. East Village Other was an underground newspaper from New York duh known for its early embrace of the counterculture and counterculture aesthetics often using absurdist pieces to provide social commentary. As an early proponent of the underground comix movement EVO published work by R. Crumb Trina Robbins and others as well as publishing a paper devoted to comix. This issue focusing on underground comix advertising the Gothic Blimp Works and featuring work by R. Crumb including some very inappropriate work Vaughn Bode Art Spiegelman Kim Deitch Spain Rodriguez and others. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Moderate toning. Paper a bit brittle. Three wood engravings on a single newspaper leaf two quarter-page each 14 x 11.5 cms and one half-page 18.3 x 13.3 cms; 40.8 x 27.8 cms sheet unrelated text on the verso light age-toning very good condition. Wood engravings from "Harper's Weekly" published on the day Mandalay fell to the British at the close of the third Anglo-Burmese War. The short-lived war led to the annexation of the Konbaung Dynasty into British India by the proclamation of the Viceroy and Governor-General of India Lord Dufferin on January 1 1886. The engravings are from original photographs likely military photographs recording the war. The engravings are captioned: <br> "The Shiva Dagon Pagoda at Rangoon"; "The Great Bell at Mengdoon" and one larger half-page illustration "Monastery Near the Eastern Gate of Mandalay". .
