br. Al-Kindi (Bassora?, Baghdad 870 c.a.). filosofo e scienziato è considerato autore di 270 trattati, in gran parte perduti. Ci restano vari suoi scritti di commento a trattati aristotelici, inoltre "Il libro del sonno e dei sogni". Il suo "De Radiis", o "Teorica delle arti magiche", di cui l'originale arabo è perduto, fu tradotto in latino nel XII secolo, e divenne in Occidente insieme alla "Picatrix" - il più diffuso manuale di magia naturale del Medioevo. Nel "De Radiis", la cui matrice ermetica e neoplatonica è indubbia, sono messi in luce non soltanto i metodi, ma anche i significati filosofici e teologici del mondo magico, nelle loro relazioni con l'astrologia.
