"All Souls' Universalist Church was founded by Rev. Dr. George H. Deere in July 1881. Its services were first held in the Citrus Fair pavilion and afterward in a little church extemporized from a discarded school building located on Market street near Seventh. In 1891 land was bought at the corner of Seventh and Lemon streets where the society built the elegant little stone church and parsonage which it has since occupied. The more conspicuous of the lay members who aided in the completion of these buildings were Albert S. White William Finch Seneca LaRue Dr. John Hall Aberdien Keith K. D. Shugart and William P. Russell. There was an original membership of fifteen which had grown to 162 in 1912"-genealogytrails. Press Printing Company hardcover

The Biltmore Hotel was listed in a couple 1960s editions of "The Green Book but seems likely to have been welcoming to African Americans as well as non-heterosexuals before that date but don't know if thas true before 1949. We also do not know when or whether Brown was in Los Angeles when she inscribed this and don't know whether she was staying or able to stay in that hotel at that time. Baron Long identified as President on the stationery acquired the hotel in 1933 which was almost a decade after Brown had ended her four year term as President of the National Association of Colored Women 1920-1924. We also don't know anything about the inscribee. paperback

The company remains active to this day. Throughout its existence it has toured the Western world. Two pages with photos of National Artists' better known artists which included the Vienna Philharmonic the violinist Mischa Elman and Ruggiero Ricci the pianist Jose Iturbi and opera singers Birgit Nillson Zinka Milanov and Robert Merrill.
