27817London: The Last Resort. 1982. A rare fanzine published by the skinhead hangout and clothing store 'The Last Resort' in East Aldgate London. Stapled photocopied paper. 20 pages. Illustrated throughout with photos by Derek Ridgers. A good entirely original example the pages a little nicked with short tears creases and some toning at the edges. The upper cover with an inscription in ink. One of only five issues of Skins magazine the present example featured an interview with Peter and the Test Tube Babies by John G. Byrne skinhead poetry by Mick Turpin Ann Brodie and Lil O'Connor an article on tattooing and photographs letters and ads throughout. Wraps cloth backstrip "Public Schools of Highland Park Composition Book No. 60" printed on front cover; 172 x 210 mm; approx. pp. 100 lined paper it contains 19 pencil drawings of women in dresses most of them initialed "R.W." and dated. Some of the drawings are incomplete -- a bit ghostly -- but all are nicely accomlished offering a collection of sophisticated fashions of the period. The models are perhaps based on film stars. Colour-illustrated softcovers cover art photo of models in stylish hot pants and sporty jackets and vests minor shelfwear slight bumping still VG copy. First edition of this Simplicity catalogue reflecting the explosion of fashions influenced by hippie fashions of the 1960s featuring bold colours embroidery and even nascent prairie dresses to mini skirts shorts all promoted in the new synthetic fabrics of the “Polyester Decade.†Simplicity Vogue and other sewing pattern makers were all drawing from such designers as Yves Saint-Laurent Gunne Sax and Bill Gibb reviving Victorian styles as well as the 1930s and 1940s with Halston’s dress designs reminiscent of the 1950’s shirt dresses. This Simplicity fashion serial began in 1966 and ran till Spring 1979 and issues tend to be scarce. No copies of this particular issue located in Worldcat 6 libraries hold assorted issues. The articles on the silk section in No. 26 are of particular interest as are the numerous references to Army uniforms aviation fabrics automobile fabrics and of particular interest is the index to the first 28 issues in No. 29.
