This well-organized volume details the grading special garment cutting sketching tailoring dressmaking and fitting for dressmakers at the end of the Progressive Era. Rosenfeld b. 1883 was an Austro-Hungarian-American Jewish tailor and dress designer who before World War I had established not only his education courses but also oversaw his own design house and dressmaking operation in Brooklyn New York. Good. - A 19-3/4 inch high by 10-3/4 inch wide broadsheet printed on buff card stock advertising the firm's garment boxes. Text printed within an orange ruled frame at the at the top proclaims "An improved method of rendering real service to our Customers----So necessary to the logical progress of Modern Business. This new packing idea was first placed on the market July 1927 -- It has been accepted and adopted by the leading Clothiers of the Country -- Note the list of Leading Merchants now using the Perfect Garment Box who believe that it pays in dollars and cents -- and the most valuable of the Retailers Assets -- Good Will". Columns on either side list the numerous clothiers and businesses who use their product with the broadsheet's title printed at the center. Five illustrations from photographs depicting clothing being gently folded into the boxes are printed at the bottom within orange ruled frames. A cut-out folding insert centered near the top reproduces the coat hanger which holds the clothing within the firm's boxes. Folded twice horizontally to 7 inches high by 10-3/4 inches wide with promotional text printed within decorative orange rules on one panel and an illustration in shades of black gray & orange depicting a valet or butler holding a suit printed on the other panel boldly titled "Service!" next to 3 ruled address lines. The broadsheet was mailed to "The Clothing Trade Journal" with the periodical's address penned in with a correction and with a slit "New Orleans" postage seal along the bottom of the fold. The edges are darkened with a couple of tiny chips and a tiny tear to the right edge of the top fold. Very good. <p>RARE.<p>A more comfortable alternative to the confining slim suits of the war years the athletically cut drape suit had more fabric through the shoulders and chest with a slight drape. First edition of this scarce and unusually complete salesman sample sales kit for women’s dresses fashions coats lingerie as well as men’s overcoats underwear & socks and even women’s outerwear rubber pocket books and overcoats in post-World War II America. The Melville Company was a coordinated direct-sales fashion company supplied by Harford Frocks Inc. which maintained a large mail order tailoring operation in Ohio from the early 1920s up through the 1970s employing 100s of tailors and seamstresses to fill orders together with J.C. Field & Son Inc. direct marketing firm. The company focused on “plus sizes†while maintaining how these fashions emphasized trim appearances survived on a constant sales force composed primarily of young women and house wives earning extra money willing to peddle door-to-door and created a high-quality product. The catalogue offers invaluable illustrated historical reference for the colours styles and fabrics during the explosion and impact of Christian Dior’s new designs reflecting the refined femininity with severely cinched waists extra padding to the hips longer and decidedly more romantic skirts and dresses as well as nicely fitted jacket-and-skirt tailored suits. Israel 1901-1991 built and ran this very successful mail order dressmaking operation which also owned the Fashion Frocks Dress Company as well and operated out of the Oesterlein Machine Company historic building in Cincinnati OH now home to the American Sign Museum. 27819London: The Last Resort. c.1982. Original catalogue for 'The Last Resort' clothing store in London. Eight pages. Photocopied paper stapled to the upper left corner. A very good copy a little rubbed toned and creased to the extremities and a couple of short closed tears to the upper edge. The contents are otherwise clean and without inscriptions or stamps. Initially a punk clothing shop then in 1978 owners Micky and Margaret French changed theme seeing an opportunity to become the Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood of the skinhead revival. The shop located in Goulston Street in London's East End became a popular hangout for young skins who has few other places to go. The business acquired a poor reputation due to the quality of its clothes terrible service mail orders were rarely filled after payment and much of the clientele. Featured designers of these ready-to-wear styles include Donna Karan for Anne Klein Gloria Vanderbilt and Kay Unger. Also represented are the mass-market "sport" lines of Givenchy and Pierre Cardin. The Good Wools was issued by The Wool Bureau the American branch of the International Wool Secretariat. The IWS shaped global fashion trends for decades through forecasting reports like this one and through the International Woolmark Prize which launched the careers of designers Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld. In 1997 the IWS would rebrand as The Woolmark Company keeping their iconic logo the stylized skein of yarn used throughout The Good Wools to signify 100% wool content. Federal Tailoring Co. was a consortium of several Jewish-American tailoring wholesalers located across from the Drovers & Mechanics National Bank in Baltimore. The woolen samples contained within this catalogue were patterns intended for suits suits & trousers and winter coats of the Baltimore working class at the beginning of the 20th century with heavier weaves courser wool blends and more neutral colour palate focusing on dark blues tans browns some grays.
